Why does my snipping tool no longer bring up the pop up image to edit?

My Snip tool used to bring the image I captured in a pop up automatically, that I could edit when using the windows key & Ctrl S. It no longer does this? Is there a setting I need to change? I have to actually open the Snip Tool Menu to get this to work now. Not sure if some update was done by my IT people that changed this.

    I found a way to make it work by pinning the app to the taskbar and right-clicking it to take a new screenshot. The app still doesn't go full screen but at least stays in the foreground and a new screenshot can be initiated. Worth mentioning that 'Multiple windows" is enabled in settings.

    This is what worked for me:

    1. Open Snipping Tool normally via the start menu to get the UI up
    2. Click the three dots in the top left and click Settings
    3. Disable "Automatically save screenshots"

    Caveat that this is in/after updating to Windows 11 for me so I don't know if this is option is in Windows 10, but I didn't even know it was a thing until I ran out of ideas and went digging. After disabling the auto save the popup started appearing for me again (I also went to check my pictures folder and sure enough there were the countless tests screen grabs I'd made!).

    Apologies for no screenshots (ironic), the form keeps saying its failed if I try to upload an image.

    Message to original poster, or anyone else experiencing this issue.

    I was going INSANE because I love and use the snip app a lot. I tried all of the fixes I saw in this thread, and nothing was working. Lo'-and-behold I had NOTIFICATIONS TURNED OFF! How could I not have thought to check there first? I never turned them off, so why would I look there? Maybe on one of the recent updates they got turned off? Anyway, sometimes the obvious answer is the answer....or at least it was for me!

    Mike LRD, you are a genius. Although my route to Set Default was different, I got there in the end, thanks to you. It's now working perfectly, with the snip popping up straight away. Thanks for providing the solution that worked for me and the straightforward instructions.

    I fixed it as follows:

    • Start > All Apps > Scroll down to snipping tool
    • right-click on snipping tool > More > App Settings
    • click on "set Default apps"
    • scroll down to Snipping Tool and click on it
    • scroll down to the section that says "MS-SCREENSKETCH" and click on it
    • select the option that says snipping tool and that has the snipping tool icon
    • click "Set Default"
    • close window
    • restart snipping tool

    Now whenever I take a snip the window to edit, highlight, crop is available by clicking the snip icon on the task bar.
