Why does my snipping tool no longer bring up the pop up image to edit?

My Snip tool used to bring the image I captured in a pop up automatically, that I could edit when using the windows key & Ctrl S. It no longer does this? Is there a setting I need to change? I have to actually open the Snip Tool Menu to get this to work now. Not sure if some update was done by my IT people that changed this.

    What to check/fix:

    1. Notifications for Snip & Sketch
      • Go to Settings → System → Notifications & actions
      • Scroll to Snip & Sketch, make sure “Notifications” is On.
    2. Focus Assist
      • Still under Notifications & actions, click Focus assist
      • Set it to Off (or add Snip & Sketch to the “Priority” list) so its toasts aren’t suppressed.

    We had this problem and this fixed the issue for us.

    Press Shift+Win+S to start the snip. Snip a portion and it will pop up the notification in the bottom right corner with what you snipped. Click that pop up notification. For me, after clicking that, it popped up a dialog asking which "snipping tool" to use to open it. Both said snipping tool, only the second one had the snipping tool icon. I clicked the one with the snipping icon and clicked "always". It then opened. I closed it and now using the snipping tool without using the keyboard shortcut also returned to normal. Meaning, I can start the app with my mouse and snip a portion. It would be minimized after snipping, but when I click it, the image is there where I can copy, edit and/or save.

    It looks to be a bug in the latest update where the program tries to open the image with the old snipping tool version, but can't as it doesn't exist. When I choose "always" with the second option, it told Windows to use the newest version and fixed it... at least that's what I think happened.

    What are you resetting and what is the toast people refer to?

    I have dexterity problems and find using windows+shift+s a problem. I keep the Snipping Tool on my Taskbar and use it from there, I want the screen with the snip to be visible so I can copy or save it straight away. The Snip & Sketch app that I use with Windows 10 did that admirably and it was faster. Why can't that be available in the store or be accessible in another way to use with Windows 11.

    This didn't work for me the first time but after a second reset it did. If you have this issue I suggest trying to reset multiple times until it works? Strange.

    Mine has just begun doing this - pop-up is only a background window and icon in system tray turns pink!
