I noticed last night before I went to bed that I had the option to update and restart my PC which meant there was something in Windows that needed an update. Ok...sure. I selected that option, watched the system prepare and download the update, and went to bed.
This morning I go into my office and my PC won't even boot! I initially get to the Windows loading screen....nothing but the spinning dots for 30 minutes. So I hold the power button down, let it reset...same result. I reboot again, try to go into Safe Mode....nothing at all. Black screen. So I thought "Great! I have to reinstall Windows and restore my last system image (which was this Sunday thankfully)." So I get out my Windows USB install stick, set my PC to start from there, get the prompt to install 32 or 64 bit Windows, select 64 bit, get the loading install files message...
Nothing! Doesn't load at all!
I've tried to get into Safe Mode, took out all my RAM and reseated them, only installed 1 stick at a time (out of four I had installed), unplugged and reseated the PSU cables to EVERYTHING...not one single thing is working! I use my computer for work, and right now all I have is a $3500 paperweight! I've now spent HOURS in Google University trying to find the magic bullet that will fix this, and nothing is working!

It took the 3 power off and on real quick for me to get to windows recovery screen.
Don't let it get to log in screen, turn on, and off 3 times without letting it get to log in, that's only way it worked for me.

Sorry this was posted twice - browser froze and I thought I had lost the post...
I am having the same problem; after installing Win 10 update computer boots quickly into the Welcome Screen (Date/Time). Peripherals don't work, pressing caps lock does not toggle the light on/off. I am using multiple keyboards/mice, usb dongle and USB hard wired. All work in BIOS, but are not recognized once I am in the Welcome Screen.
I have an M2 as my C drive and a mechanical as my D drive. C drive backs up weekly to the D drive.
The only way I can get the Win RE screen is to put in my original OS thumb drive (have the key) enter BIOS and choose the Thumb drive as first boot. Once in the Recovery I have tried everything: Uninstall updates (the second one fails), Command Prompt with several suggestions on this site (defaults to X drive, but I can switch to C or D, however the directory looks strange, but I have not been a cmd user for quite some time).
Restore - two different points, same results - That utility sees the Mechanical drive (D) as C - this I find strange as the BIOS sees the M2 as C and the boot drive
Re-image from and image on my C: drive... but it labels the recovery drive D as C (with the mechanical drives alias).
Please do not tell me that it is a coincidental hardware failure. It is not. This is a direct result of the Win Update.
Someone please help me. I can't turn off WIFI, ... or anything for that matter (upon restart the computer is completely unresponsive, no peripherals, however a minute or two later the www symbol changes to 'wifi connected).
Running memory test now, CPU seems fine, will edit once done (don't expect to find a problem).

I am having the exact same problem
Computer running fine, installed updates on Friday morning EDT.
Upon restart, I am taken into the Welcome Screen (rather quickly). No USB port/peripherals work. I have two keyboards (wires unwired with track pad) and multiple mice. Pressing Caps Lock does not toggle the light on/off so I belileve in this state the USB ports are not recognized. All I can do is a hard shutdown. Computer has been running without issue since inception (May 2021). I normally manually apply MSFT updates.
I can get into BIOS, which sees my M2 C drive as the only boot disk (C) (I also have a mechanical drive which does a weekly back up: D). Keyboard/Mouse work in BIOS (but not in Welcome/Time/Date screen). One of mice I am using has the red light undercarriage, on in BIOS off if I 'boot' into Welcome screen.
A minute or two after coming into the Welcome screen the logo in the lower right changes from 'no web access' to 'connected'. I can't turn off wifi (or, can I and how????.... I would like to try that... antena has been removed but it still finds the network. I haven't shut down the wireless network, but, if the wireless is on the computer (controlled by OS) is the problem, weather or not my wifi is up is irrelevant if I can't shut off the computers wifi.
Putting my OS thumb drive in (I built the computer and did a clean OS install) allows me to enter the Windows Recovery window - I have tried everything other than a clean install of the OS. I can not find my recovery thumb drive (but have images on the D drive).
Remove most recent updates, one of the two choices ran fine, the second one fails (multiple attempts). I ger a message that something went wrong and to try recovery option.
Running svc/scannow etc. from the command prompt also fails - command prompt defaults to X: (not sure why). Switching over to C or D and dir shows very few directories - but back, system image are there. - it appears as if it has all been corrupted!!! I do not have admin rights so some of the suggestions on this and other sites are not possible.
System Restore - runs, upon restart, same results (have used to different historical images). HERE, IT SHOWS THE LOCATION of the mechanical drive, normally D as C (It does not show in BIOS Boot, however the M2 drive shows as the C drive.... I am really hoping someone has seen this before and knows a solution).
Reimage from image created on 10/16/22 - same results. Reimage from 10/9 - same results

Even left my computer try to update for two hours, nothing changed. Just spinning dots.
