Is live.co.uk using POP on a mail host out of order or discontinued.

I have two laptops. One is Windows 7 (and always has been) and the other is Windows 10 (and always has been). I don't want to upgrade the Windows 7 laptop. I love Windows 7 and I love WLM 2012. I use this Windows 7 laptop for everyday usage because it has WLM 2012. I rarely use the Windows 10 laptop simply because it does not have WLM 2012. What I want to do is use the Windows 10 laptop more often, especially because eventually I expect I'll have to retire the Windows 7 laptop. The Windows 10 laptop is a new laptop and came with W10 installed - it is not an upgraded system - it has never been anything except Windows 10. But my problem is that I want to use WLM 2012 on the new Windows 10 laptop because I like the way it works, but particularly because I want to store emails locally on it (using POP) and delete them from the mainframe. I definitely DO NOT want to upgrade the old Windows 7 laptop: I like it fine as it is. Ultimately I imagine the old W7 laptop will stop working and I will have to resort to W10 or even W11. I will probably still run two laptops (the current newer W10 and a further one which I shall purchase. But all the time I would like to continue to have WLM 2012 rather than an alternative email host program. I have several different email accounts and I want to continue to use POP and save certain emails locally - not necessarily the same emails on each laptop - and delete them all off webmail as soon as I have downloaded in POP and saved them locally on one of the laptops.

I hope I am explaining this clearly. Sadly I don't understand the bulk of what you have written in your last post. But I want to make it clear I do not want to upgrade either laptop from the OS that currently exists on each. All I want to do is find a means of getting WLM 2012 on any computer which is purchased with W10 or W11 (or even later if such a thing ends up being developed) as the operating system.

It is useful to me to have two separate laptops (or more) but I really want WLM 2012 on each laptop regardless of which OS it has.

So what I want is to have a means of getting WLM 2012 on any new laptop (and not have it keep going wrong as Don's reply post about issues following System Updates suggests it might)

I do not use One Drive and don't want to. I back up my files (including my saved locally WLM 2012 emails) onto an external hard drive.

That is another reason I like WLM 2012 because it is very easy to backup my saved emails (of which I have thousands) onto an external hard drive locally so everything is kept here. I'm just much happier with that system rather than synchronised systems.

As I say I prefer to keep different emails locally on separate laptops for different purposes.

I've found it a bit confusing trying to answer what you are asking/saying and what Don is asking/saying. I hope I've now clarified.

I think there might have been some confusion over where one of us has said Upgrades and one of us has said Updates. Naturally I do System Updates (although on old laptop these are only Security Updates as that is all that is offered for Windows 7). I definitely don't want to Upgrade anything at all: I want to leave the OS the same as it was installed in the first place. I want to have multiple computers (maybe each with different OS as installed) but have WLM 2012 on each (provided it is going to work properly and keep working properly and not get disrupted by some kind of Windows Update or some other factor)

2 The explanation in the search page doesn't really accord with what I see displayed. For example when I look at gmail activity it shows Browser followed by the 31 character IP; IMAP followed by the short 4 block numeric; POP followed by the same 31 character IP that appears against browser. (When I look at Wireless Network Connection Status Details it shows a different IPv4 short 4 block numeric. This I can understand being different as it probably relates to the hub. But it also shows the same 31 character IP as in gmail activity against the IPv6)

However I suppose it doesn't really matter if I can't understand !

3 That article about Update messing up Windows Live Essentials had already been noted for me by the other Poster on this thread. If anything like that happens to me it would undoubtedly frighten me into serious stress illness. It makes me feel even more uncertain about what to do.

I assumed one's IP address* was common to all internet connections/actvities/accounts on the one device (computer) - or more accurately one hub/network - for a period until a new one got assigned - and in fact that is how it reads to me in the search page you gave: so I still don't really see why only one account was affected and all others on the same device (computer) using the same programme (WLM) were unaffected. [1] I hope when the ISP assigns me a new IP I don't lose access to some accounts again and have to clear & register the dns again. *I do see though that I have a long IP consisting of blocks of numbers & letters making a combination of 31 in total, another consisting of 4 blocks of numbers usually starting 86 or 81, and various IPv4 and IPv6 numbers. It's very confusing to a non-techie Senior Citizen !

[2] What is the difference between the 31 character IP and the 4 block numeric IP ? If I look up activity on my gmail account in webmail I see both types listed. If I call up the search page you quoted on both laptops I see the same two sets of IP addresses I see in gmail activity but sometimes it shows one (the 31 character) and sometimes the other (the 4 blocks)

As far as the other matter is concerned, what I had said was that I use my old Windows 7 laptop for everyday use because I rely heavily on WLM 2012 as I keep a vast number of emails locally on this (hence my use of POP3) and delete all from all other locales (webmail). I said I don't use Windows 10 because you can't have WLM 2012 (or Windows Live Essentials) on a new Windows 10 laptop. Another poster says you can and gave me the link to archive from which he says I can download WLM 2012 onto a new Windows 10 laptop. (The wlsetup exe is already stored in downloads on my Window 7 laptop from the time when it was originally installed). [3] What I hope to do if I can be brave enough (or pay someone else to do) is download & install WLM 2012 to my other, newer, Windows 10 laptop which I rarely use so I can then apply the same local storage of emails on the new laptop. I love WLM and was completely put off Windows 10 by being told it wasn't available there.

1. *Your* IP address isn't involved in the DNS Cache problem. The DNS cache is storing IP addresses of sites you go to. Gmail, Yahoo Mail and outlook.live.com all have different IP addresses. *Your* IP address doesn't matter.
