Is live.co.uk using POP on a mail host out of order or discontinued.

As far as I am aware (and I'm not technical) my research indicated the problem was in the dns. I cleared the dns cache and registered the dns. This seems to have worked and I am currently able to pick up pop3.live.com in WLM. Why only my live.co.uk email was affected and not my other POP3 email accounts (gmail, btinternet & AOL) I don't know (perhaps you do?), nor why this issue suddenly arose this week.

Perhaps you, as a Moderator, can explain why this happened and why it only affected my live.co.uk email and no other POP3 email address on WLM 2012 nor any other internet service. Is this likely to happen again?

Glad that you thought to clear the DNS Cache. Random problems with the DNS Cache just happen. You didn't do anything to cause it and you can't prevent it.

If it happens again, clear the DNS Cache again.

Thank you but yes I already knew I had correct ports, servers & encryptions (as I have already said) albeit I use POP3.live.com which had been, and has now resumed, working. Whatever it was, the error (wording as set out in my initial post) was instantaneous and repeated each time WLM tried to send & receive. This happened instantly and continuously for over 2 days until I cleared the dns cache (Elevated command prompt, ipconfig /flushdns) and registered the dns (Elevated command prompt, ipconfig/registerdns). I sincerely hope this is an end to the problem. It seems to have been more or less ok since I did this. Perhaps you, as a Moderator, can explain why this happened and why it only affected my live.co.uk email and no other POP3 email address on WLM 2012 nor any other internet service. Is this likely to happen again? I have found the whole experience, as a non-techie senior citizen, frightening, upsetting and stressful. I rely on POP and Windows Live Mail so I can retain individual emails locally on my laptop and delete from elsewhere. I don't want to go through this experience again. Have you any advice to prevent similar occurence please?

The ports, servers and encryptions I have are correct.

These settings work for me. Try them. Change back to your current settings if mine don't work for you.

Thank you. I hope I never experience anything like that because I wouldn't have the nerve to change Registry keys. The experience of these poor people is absolutely horrendous. I'm still using Windows 7 on my everyday laptop with Windows Live Mail so hopefully I'm less likely to experience this issue. I am avoiding changing to a new Windows 10 laptop for everyday use because I like Windows Live Mail and you can't get it on new Windows 10, only the upgraded from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10 one. My WLM is 2012 but it has never been anything other than that version which was installed from new. Nowadays of course, since discontinuation of support for Windows 7, the only Windows Updates I get on this laptop are the Security ones.
