Windows 11 keeps dropping wifi

Currently I am unable to replicate the problem. Initially WiFi was not available after Windows 11 put the computer into a sleep mode (power saving). While everything else seemed to restore from sleep mode the WiFi system was no where to be found. I could not access the WiFi unless I rebooted the computer.

So I turned off my Sleep Mode settings. Now the computer restores as soon as I log back.

Another thing I did... I purchased a powered USB Hub

This allowed me to physically reboot the WiFi Adapter (USB) thus restoring the WiFi link. This worked well. The computer went into the default sleep mode (Power Plan). I logged back into the computer and only the WiFi failed to restart. At this point I simple powered off the WiFi adapter for 2 seconds. Restored the WiFi adapter power and everything worked until the computer went into sleep mode.

At this point I I changed my power plan settings. I turned the settings to off. Now the computer enters Sleep Mode in 10 minutes. I press any key and the computer returns to service. With the WiFi is working.

NOTE: I wanted to repeat the failure again before replying. With the Power Plan default settings restored my WiFi is restoring after "sleep mode." Currently this failure is not repeatable on this Windows 11 Operating System Dell Precision 3660 tower.

Note that all of the Windows 11 OS updates are current. Only the OS updates were made to this system during the last month.

Fortunately the Dell Precision 3660 came with a WiFi adapter. This allowed me to insert a USB hub to correct the real problem. This is a OS issue. But my work around solution is to cycle the WiFi power after restoring the OS from sleep works.

Sadly, not a lot. Windows 11 actively scans and checks files (against lists of unapproved files) that are uploaded and downloaded - it's abusive of Microsoft, but then that's what they do these days because nobody stops them simply doing what they want (you try not use Edge to open any help link from the settings page!) and if it thinks that files you are uploading or downloading are on that list, or similar to files on that list - it kills your wi-fi. No doubt some person on here will tell you that I'm just a conspiracy theorist, but I advise you look up similar things they did investigated using the Kinect device on X-Boxs a few years ago (https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/139706-microsofts-new-kinect-patent-goes-big-brother-will-spy-on-you-for-the-mpaa)

It detected how many people were watching a movie, and then wouldn't show the movie if it thought that more than the 'allowed' number were trying to - but didn't actively tell you that's what it was why, because doing so would have meant people would have known to unplug the Kinect.

All conspiracy theories aside, do not follow the advice on these pages from anybody with the word Microsoft next to their name... the amount of collective damage they have done to people's machines over the years is ridiculous, and they should be collectively sued for advising people to do things like reset your machine (handily also resetting everything back to the way their corporate schill masters want your machine to be, and removing any of the useful software that was produced by somebody who might possibly take some money away from Microsoft's market share no or in the future). I'm a cynical bugger I know, but I've been working with computers for over 40 years now, and I've watched the usefulness of them be filtered down to just what these corporations want you to spend your time on and little else. Shareholders rule Microsoft, there is no such thing as a customer any more... there is only cattle, and those who eat steak after they've fattened the calves.

Basically Windows 11 (or whomever) is using a facility on your wi-fi card to turn it off, but that can be disabled on a lot of cards, which will deny one way of doing this from being used.

Basics though:
1/ Open the run command
2/ Enter devmgmt.msc

3/ Find your wi-fi adapter, right click, choose Properties

4/ Look for power management

5/ Uncheck anything that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

What else happens with "reset"?

SOLUTION FOR ME:

Windows 11 settings, Network & Internet, Advanced Network Settings, "NETWORK RESET"

I had tried that. Turned out to be the built in network adapter.
