Item checkboxes cannot be disabled on windows 11

I recently upgraded to windows 11 on my laptop, and I can't disable item check boxes in the file explorer.

Disabling item check boxes works on the desktop, but not in the file explorer (see attached screenshot).

I have tried disabling "Use check boxes to select items" in folder settings, and changing the value of HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\AutoCheckSelect to 0 in the registry, both of which do not solve the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated :)

    Send your feedback to Microsoft. Let the guys responsible for the direct development figure it out.
    The above "solutions" are "Band-Aid®" solutions which happens to work for some of the devices. Since these different devices are modified by different OEMs at hardware and software level, you should search for their contact information.
    An official Windows update should address the problem; not us.

    Not VALUE. You need to search for KEYS.

    Select the HKEY_CURRENT_USER node.

    Then perform a search and CHECK the box next to KEYS and UNCHECK the box next to VALUES and DATA.

    We only want to find KEYS that EXACTLY match "RUN".

    Thanks, DJO_34 for the detailed instructions. Alas, it did not work for me. After deleting RtkAudUService and rebooting, I still can't remove check boxes or switch to compact view. Hopefully others have success with this.

    You have to reinstall the original Windows 10 OS then use the upgrade assistant to update to Windows 11. Check CHUWI's forums for the download link, I posted it there last week as AbsoluteZero
