Item checkboxes cannot be disabled on windows 11

I recently upgraded to windows 11 on my laptop, and I can't disable item check boxes in the file explorer.

Disabling item check boxes works on the desktop, but not in the file explorer (see attached screenshot).

I have tried disabling "Use check boxes to select items" in folder settings, and changing the value of HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\AutoCheckSelect to 0 in the registry, both of which do not solve the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated :)

    YMC.exe is an executable exe file which belongs to the Lenovo Yoga Mode Control process which comes along with the Lenovo Yoga Mode ControlSoftware developed by Lenovo software developer.

    Maybe that's why it is needed for your Yoga.

    On Surface Pro 8 it was only needed to disable that registry variable.

    I am still tho wondering the real differences in having the "Microsoft Surface 2in1 features" enabled and disabled.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell

    DeviceConvertible 1 set to 0

    it works for Lenovo Yoga 720 80x7 (build 22000.527)

    This did not work for me unfortunately. Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5-15IIL05.

    Any other ideas or solutions?

    What I miss most is the ability to press shift or ctrl, and choose multiple items. With checkboxes, I have to choose each one seperately. How is this efficient, Microsoft?

    Those checkboxes were driving me nuts and this has solved the issue.

    This worked on an Asus Zenbook 14 OLED (Build 22000.613)

    Sorry to hear that Marc.

    Windows 11 "detects" when it is in tablet mode.

    When in table mode, checkboxes are ENABLED and compact mode is DISABLED to provide more space for touching.

    I'm sure there are some models that don't provide the proper messages to the OS to tell it which mode it is in.

    My suggestion is check for BIOS updates. And if that doesn't work, search for any process that runs at startup that you can kill with Task Manager or SysInternals Process Explorer and see if it works.

    Like the Realtek Service, some software can intercept messages or send improper ones that apparently tricks Windows 11 into thinking the laptop is in TABLET MODE.
