Help with "Windows 10 installation has failed" at 73% on Windows 8.1 Pro

Every time I try to install Windows 10 through the Media tool I always stop at 73%. I tried to do it on a Clean Boot and it was the same. I also tried to remove the "read-only" and "system" attributes on the "$WINDOWS.~BT", but it doesn't let me change the "Read-Only" attribute on a file called boot.sdi and I don't know how to remove the "System" attribute.

    This PC has never had Windows 10 on it before, but thank you for the reply just the same. I will keep trying

    Not sure what's up with the serious duplicated posts in this thread lol.

    But, if you already had Windows 10 on the computer, you can just download the Windows 10 iso, burn that to usb stick, and clean install. It would already be recognized as authorized.

    If not having it previously, it could take some doing to workaround the issue. But, it might just work to burn a Windows 10 iso then do the upgrade from that if you haven't. I don't use it but it should offer a choice to upgrade or clean install. That should offer the best chance. If it still fails then the Windows 8.1 install is corrupted (meaning it can't successfully upgrade it) or Windows 10 has some sort of compatibility issue with that computer or something attached to it (and thus same result).

    Unfortunately, No. Even my kid (whom at one time I was convinced! was Bill Gate's illegitimate son LOL) can not figure it out!!. Please keep me in the loop if you find out anything. Thanks.

    I receive the same error, after previously having Windows 10 Home installed on the computer. My computer crashed and wouldn't restart. I used my recovery USB stick, but didn't realize it was my original with Windows 8.1. Now when I try to upgrade to Windows 10, I get the "Windows 10 installation has failed" at 73%.

    My profile on my Microsoft account shows the correct computer setup and W[ndows 10 as the operating system - meaning my account is associated with Windows 10, but still no dice on the upgrade.

    My system is running WIndows 8.1 *Home*, not *Pro*, and yet my attempts to upgrade to Windows 10 fail at exactly the same "73%".

    I have run Windows Update until there are no more updates, have more than enough storage space on the hard drive, have memory that passes all tests, have a CPU that is more than fast enough for Windows 10, and I am trying to upgrade from a DVD with the latest ISO burned to it to upgrade. No matter what I try, all attempts fail at "73%". It seems to me that this is consistent for enough of us in the Microsoft Windows community that someone at Microsoft should be able to tell us what to look for in our systems to try to get past this.
