I am trying to install the new Windows 11 update from Windows Update, but I keep getting error 0xc1900101.

The installation starts, and after a couple restarts, it says:

" Attempting to recover installation "

" Undoing changes made to your computer "

And then I am greeted with error 0xc1900101 on Windows Update.

Installing from the Media Creation Tool has not worked for me and all my drivers are up to date. Windows always rolls back during reboot at about 85% when I have caught it. I started to try updating with the previews in the summer. Windows Update says it is eligible.

This is a Dell laptop - I shouldn't be having these issues.

I agree totally with you. I also have a Dell laptop (Inspiron 7506 2n1 purchased in June 2021). Likewise, I have attempted upgrades to Windows11 starting in September and the last one (I think) in December 2021. The message saying my laptop is ready for Windows 11 has not appeared for the last couple of weeks though, so I have not tried again, but will do so soon.

When I raised the issue with Dell support last year, they ended up telling me to reach out to Microsoft who haven't been terribly helpful.

This seems to be an issue with the mother boards not ready for win 11, once i had an update done, it resulted too drivers not being updated for the GPU. Now after mother board replacement (as the previous one stopped recognizing drivers and did not allow to install new once for GPU) and some hot fixes from ASUS and maybe windows(not really sure) it prevents to install win 11 as the motherboard drivers are still not ready for it, guessing that when the mb drivers will be configured and released you will get notified to update and then try the win11.
