WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

Thanks,

Paul...

    Hi Paul,

I had 100% disk usage by WassMedic for up to 30 minutes to login for a couple of months.  Then it the problem went away without any changes by me and my logins took about 1-2 minutes.   Yesterday my login took around 5 minutes and this morning it took over 15 minutes.   I have not installed any apps or changed any configuration.   I opened up a HUB feedback as requested, but could not record the experience because my laptop is completely locked up when it's happening.

Ironically, immediately following my submission, but laptop was locked up again with 100% disk usage 'ServiceHost: UTCSVC'.  Again, I could not record anything since my desktop was locked up.

Not sure if others have had similar experience.   I have a new laptop and am using for very basic internet usage (News, Social Media, etc.).

Sharing the feedback link as asked.

Please do check not only Waas Medic Agent is using the whole disk, but sometimes System also takes the whole disk usage.

I have a POSSIBLE theory for SOME of the WaasMedic activity: Storage Sense

Normally this is OFF by default, BUT on the screen you CAN just run a "check" that shows quickly what "filetypes" (very loosely) populate your C: drive,

    even with this option OFF.

I have a suspicion that the WaasMedic (or one of its called sub-tasks) is setting up a database of files in case a user wants to run this Storage Sense feature.

It does NOT explain why this service looks at other mounted drives or file-systems of course.

    Here's the best explanation I've found...  https://fleexlab.blogspot.com/2021/03/why-waasmedic-agent-hammers-disk.html

And yes I have over 500GB on my hard drive.  So, I'm guessing the people who are getting hammered with 100% Disk usage have a lot on their hard drives.... aka previously loyal Windows users....

Fwiw, I don't use my PC now as much as my iOS products.... and using the PC as "smart storage" or as a streaming device.  I'm hearing the same things from friends who are also long-time PC users....  You're losing customers....  :(

Can MS disable this? I don't enjoy modifying the registry....  happy to start using my PC if I can actually use it....
