WaasMedic Agent Exe stopping me from working

My computer slowed to a crawl. I cannot work. I checked task manager and saw a process waas Medic agent exe is the culprit. It is using 2.8 mb of memory and 1.2 mbs of disk usage.

I understand this is a Microsoft process. What I don't understand is what give Microsoft the right to take over my computer whenever it wants to and stop me from working.

How do I stop this?

Update (5/5/21) - Editing with some additional details.

Can some of you reporting high CPU or high disk usage of the WaasMedic agent create a Feedback Hub entry for me and share the Feedback URL on this thread?

The most important part would be the 'Recreate my Problem' recording while you see the high resource usage in Task Manager.

I want to promote some of these Feedback entries for investigation.

Updates:

Thank you for those who have been trying to file feedback. In some cases the system performance has prevented the use of Recreate my problem.

The Feedback is still useful without the recording, I will still raise those entries.

It is also useful if the Feedback is done shortly after the system is no longer experiencing the high disk usage, I will be calling out those entries as well.

Finally, I was not clear about the best Category and Sub Category selections. Please use Category: Install and update Sub Category: Downloading, installing, and configuring Windows Updates

    I have experienced various settings going back to defaults after earlier Feature Updates (1809 and possibly later ones), and Fast Start back to ON might have been one of those. Certainly some printer drivers were lost a few times, and had to be fixed up, along with the 1GBE LAN settings going back to default setting, so losing the disabling of "Wake-on-pattern-match" - that causes random wakes from sleep if active. Plus the VERY irritating changes to my File Association defaults (PDF and others)!! 

    As regards WaasMedic, my desktop that was suffering a couple of months back seems to have settled down, although I DO see the "Compatelrunner", Sysmain, and Norton AV eat some CPU, and lower down the list WaasMedic for a short time. I am currently at 20H2 build 19042.928.

    Waas Medic ran again this morning  as well as yesterday morning - more pronounced compared to yesterdays run, lasted about 8 minutes again, improved halfway through.  Been one other posting since mine yesterday - no notification received once again though still shows me being signed in & subscribed - MS up to something ?

    May 9, 2021. system.exe, WaasMedic Agent exe, and Windows Defender alternate 100% of Disk Usage for roughly 40 minutes after startup, consistently. I checked my update history to see if it matched what everyone else was seeing, seems like my computer has done a micro-update of Windows Defender every single time I’ve turned my computer on since at least March 17.

    Is there a way for it to just... not...? I built this computer myself only a year ago and would like to be able to use it without having to plan startup an hour out.

    Should have mentioned this morning: Received no new notifications since 5th April, only 3 postings actually in this thread. I normally open this web page to double check & do postings, this morning noticed top right said 'Sign In', clicked and option showing was 'Sign 'Out'. This was there each time opened webpage on Edge & Firefox. Instead of doing that, clicked on 'Subscribe', this requested to subscribe, but of course already subscribed. Clicking on 'Subscribe' option also brought up my name & replaced the 'Sign In' requests. Same thing happened numerous times. Tried the old Windows 8 computer on which never used to access this thread. Opened in Chrome, 'Sign In' required, likewise dropdown, signed in, selected 'Subscribe', both settings held on various of this web page openings.

    Went back to this computer, same as above, clicked 'Sign Out' then 'Sign In' became available, did that & clicked 'Subscribe', both in Edge & FF, still appear to be working as they should and are holding the settings so all following web page openg shows me as being signed in & subscribed. Another Microsoft 'GLITCH' ?
