My Windows 10 Version 20H2 will not install the update 0x80004005.

After a gazillion attempts at trying to first update to 20H2 and then a full install of 20H2, I deleted my McAffee Antivirus software, disabled my audio devices and turned my bluetooth off.  I then restarted my computer (HP laptop) in safe mode with network support and clicked on the install.exe file that was on my windows 10 20H2 installation usb drive that I downloaded. Turns out you can't install windows 10 in safe mode.  By the way, the network support only works with a wired network connection, not wireless in safe mode.  I restarted my computer in regular mode and clicked on the install.exe file and about 5 hours later, windows has been updated to 20H2. BTW, I had selected to save all my data/personal files and programs during the install. My next step would have been to do a clean install and then re-install all my programs and restore all of my personal files.  I'm glad I didn't have to do that.  The only problem I am having now is reinstalling my McAffee Security Suite that is free through ATT. Hopefully solving that problem will be easier.

Hi, I'm going to try uninstalling the AV software too, as this is the only thing left to try. 

I have searched the Web and I can see ASUS have now put something on their site that covers the standard install approaches

including the Microsoft assistance method.  Clearly more and more people are having issues. 

I have installed on 2 HP laptops A celeron 1tb drive, An HP i7 with 1tb deice plus 256sd. Also an Acer all in One i3 with 1tb drive

but now i'm trying this on two Asus TP200SA 32gb netbooks that I managed to get to 1909 but they just won't install 20H2

goes through the update process until it says applying and sticks a 0 percent and does not apply  .  Give up after a few hours and the system backs itself out back to 1909.

Sorry to hear that flashing BIOS didn’t help. 

I’ve tried every step described in this thread + various YouTube videos and blog posts and nothing helped. 

What did the trick for me is indeed flashing my BIOS and disconnecting all unnecessary usb dongles. The update has been then successfully installed, without issues.

I have found a script on the Microsoft site called WUreset.bat couldn't find WUreset2.0.bat.

I Also note there is a product called WUreset on WUreset.com .

If there is a version 2 could you please post link here ?

I will try running this as advised in a Dos window on the affected netbook and report back for others .

It is as if the download is corrupt. Tried many times through standard install. Cleared the download repository and tried again

tried the USB install method and get exactly same problem. Message reads applying  changes and not to turn the machine off

but left it for many hours and it never gets past 0%.  When you do stop the install the recovery is quick so it does look like it installed 0%.

I have now installed this update on several other laptops but it will not install on this netbook which will remain on 1909 until Microsoft create a new OS that will  install. 

Microsoft keep insisting on new releases and ask us to comply to remain supported but then create an uninstallable update that won't install leaving us unsupported !! 1909 was a struggle to install on a low end netbook but now Microsoft has made something that just does not work.

Anyone had problems with the 20H2 update sitting at 0% when applying changes but then found how to get the changes applied ?
