I installed KB5035942 and unless I'm severely mistaken, the issue seems to be resolved.
Can anyone else confirm?

Dear colleagues, after updating Windows 11 to 22H2, there were significant problems with playing files purchased from iTunes in .m4a (AAC, ALAC) format. This problem has been fixed by a lot of people all over the world and is especially evident on the DJ forums. Problems are observed with the quality of playback, and with the volume and with a number of other parameters. This problem is detected on software that uses the built-in Windows 11 22H2 codecs (on earlier versions, the problem is not observed), Windows Media Player, RekordBox, Serato DJ Pro, etc. On players that use their own codecs (VLC, iTunes, JetAudio HD, etc.) there is no problem. When converting m4a to mp3, there are no problems. What it looks like: https://youtu.be/WqAA12pfWjg and https://youtu.be/um3QSTuLg6s Software vendors fix this issue after the 22H2 update as well, label it as a Microsoft issue and offer a workaround, such as converting the entire m4a database to other formats, which of course is completely unacceptable advice with a database of several thousand files. https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/12212808237337-RekordBox-5-8-7-m4a-problems Does Microsoft acknowledge the existence of this problem and when is it planned to release an urgent fix, since. the problem has been observed for a very long time and prevents normal operation?
Thanks in advance!

Pete, as I understand it, Microsoft’s mockery of millions of users continues with particular cynicism? The next update came out today, so what? Ahhhh, of course, we need to wait another month? Or two? Or a year? Or five? The guys from Apple will support a massive lawsuit from users, apparently otherwise it will no longer be possible to force Microsoft to do its job honestly. But a class action lawsuit and fines in all countries will apparently help solve the problem instantly, without dragging it out for years. :-(
You would really save yourself some trouble and angst if you actually read the information I post here. You have shown time and again that you reply without reading.
Additionally, when/if folks threaten legal action in a thread, Microsoft employees are advised to no longer participate in the thread. So this is it for me here, unfortunately.
Pete
Hi Pete, thank you for following the issue closely. This is much appreciated.
https://aka.ms/AApf7g9 this is a link to my feedback hub post from 6 months ago, maybe it was not descriptive enough and I apologize.
I am using rekordbox with all the latest updates available and I confirm that some tracks are now fine (whereas in the past they had issues), but others are screwed in the sense that they slow down randomly or block.
All bought on iTunes and m4a format to provide some context.
This screenshot provides a good visual example of the stuttering that we are experiencing.
Thank you again for your support, I think we all value it!
Luca
Hi all
I don't have time to submit to the Feedback Hub until Sunday, but I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus saying it is indeed worse now. The same iTunes M4A files that were jumping up and down in volume now sound totally corrupted in both Traktor and Windows Media Player.
Mixxx, to its credit, won't even load the files.
I have the same problem after installing latest Windows KB5034848 update. I reinstalled audio drivers, but it didn't help the playback issue. The music sounds as it is currupted. I'm unable to listem to a m4a format music. Should I unistall the update oraz wait for Microsoft solution?
