windows 11 black screen after login

recently my windows 11 PC has been showing a black screen after i login. i can still use my cursor, and i can use Ctrl Alt Del to open task manager, but it isn’t very useful as it just closes immediately. i have tried many troubleshooting steps, such as starting in safe mode and editing the bios, among others. but, no matter what i try, nothing works.

i have a prebuilt CyberpowerPC C-series gaming PC from 2019, with an AMD ryzen 5 5600 series CPU, a Gigabyte B450M motherboard, and an AMD geforce RX graphics card ( i do not know the exact model number ). I have made no hardware modifications to the PC.

    Thank you so much. I almost went into panic mode. 😭 I was on Microsoft Edge and the screen just froze on me. Then a message came up and said to terminate a program. I thought it was to close the window, not black everything out. The screen went black and only the mouse was there. Task Manager didn't have anything useful, but restart and airplane mode worked.

    If you have a Docking station attached try without the dock. I ran into an issue where it it did this when connected. Disconnected and came back to normal

    Same for me it's the third or fourth time in a few month that I encounter the same after a Windows update last one was after KB 2267602 Security intelligence update two days ago, allways same scenario, black screen with only a cursor and possibility to open task manager using ctrl-alt-delete and starting any program I wish from within task manager but no desktop screen nor explorer. Only work around restore system using a previous known good backup and disabling updates. Due to that workaround seems to me it's not a hardware problem, but .....

    How we are supposed to do any of the suggested option when screen is completely black?

    While on the Black Screen, if you can keep your Task Manager open -> Run a new task: "explorer". That fixed it on my end.

    This worked 100%. Easy. Thanks for posting this. Thought I lost everything
