WIndows 11 Driver Security Question

I’m usually a Mac user normally but have just bought a new Windows 11 Laptop for work and having a couple of teething issues.

I have an external CD drive that I’ve used with my Mac for ages, but it is compatible for both Windows and Mac. When I plug the drive into the Windows Laptop I get a pop up saying that the driver can’t be installed due to Microsoft Security, and on following the help it says that I need to turn off memory integrity in the core isolation section of security. If I do this the drive works.

The problem with this is that I don’t want the memory integrity off all the time and it’s a pain having to turn it off and on every time I use the CD drive, especially as it requires a restart. Is there a workaround anyone knows of? Can you set specific items to bypass the security settings?

The driver in question is GEARAspiWDM.sys, and a quick google tells me this is a driver that allows CD recording capabilities to iTunes.

I’ve looked at other CD drives and they’re all compatible with Mac and Windows so I’m guessing if I bought a new drive I’d run into the same issues?

Any help would be appreciated.

    I think only a full clean install will resolve this, the reset is not as good as a full clean install.

    I do not think you will have access to Bitlocker after the reset, open File Explorer, then go to 'This PC' look at your drive, is there a lock icon on the drive?

    Screen colours, click your Start Button, then just type dccw and press Enter to open the screen calibration utility and work through that

    Bitlocker is still active. If I go to This PC the drive has a padlock symbol, but it is open. If I go to settings>system>storage>disks and volumes the C drive is encrypted and when you click turn off bitlocker there isn’t the option to turn it off still. Is the only way to remove it to do a fresh install using the commands you posted earlier.

    If I do the screen calibration you listed it allows me to change gamma as well reds, greens and blues however doing this reverts to the ‘native’ oversaturated profile, so whilst the tones of the colours are right they’re way too vivid and ‘cartoony’. In myASUS if I choose P3 Gamut or sRGB they’re much more muted (i.e. normal) but the whole screen is far too warm. If I then go to the windows calibrator to make it cooler by reducing the greens and reds by equal measure it swaps back to the vivid colour profile.

    As the colour profile options (default, P3 and sRGB) are within the myASUS software I’m wondering if deleting myASUS will remove the over vivid profile(s) and then I can just use the Windows calibrator to get the tones right?

    As the myASUS profiles appear to override/interfere with the windows calibrator my worry is that they’d overrule colour profiles from a third party screen calibrator if I bought one?

    I’m sure for a lot of people the screen colours aren’t an issue, but as someone with a keen interest in photography and who does a lot of processing in Lightroom this is pretty important.

    Definitely Bitlocker should not be enabled for a normal user, it is okay in a work environment where sensitive data needs to be encrypted and they have a backup on a company server, it is too easy to loose data if the Bitlocker key cannot be found.

    Windows contains a full security suite that contains many components, including Defender, it is on a par with all the paid for security suites, it is free, will not slow your PC down, it integrates well with Windows and will secure your PC.

    After performing the reset it appears to be working again. It's allowed me to install the iLok licence manager, and everything seems back to 'normal'. I might postpone taking it back, but I'm trying to decide whether to delete the ASUS software to see if I can make the screen colours better.

    Is there another way to disable Bitlocker without having to go into the Windows RE?
