Clipboard problems (can not copy/paste) in Windows 11

Clipboard stops to working in random time during the working day. Can't copy/paste, clipboard manager is empty. No any special actions done before this: it just stops to work in regular routine. I just have to restart Windows and hope to work for a next few hours.

It's make me crazy to restart my computer few times a day. I have complicated environment with VM's, Docker, IDE, SSH Terminals and should restart it JUST BECAUSE SUDDENLY I HAVE NO CLIPBOARD.

HOW IT'S EVEN POSSIBLE TO BREAK THE CLIPBOARD??? I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT JOKE

Windows 11 is broken! Please fix it!

I know here a lot of people with same issue. Please comment: let's make this problem visible to MS.

Please no generic advises about restart explorer, dism/sfc, troubleshooting and reinstalling my OS.

All of this was tried many times and doesn't solve this deep Windows bug.

My system information:

Windows 11 22H2 (x64), build 22621.2715, all the updates installed (Nov 2023)

Ryzen 7 5800H, 32 Gb RAM

UPDATES:

SOLUTION #1 (JUNE 2024): confirmed and tested

As I noticed before, clipboard issue was always after my computer was left for some time switched on. During this my screensaver was shown and SOME BACKGROUND TASKS performed. This caused the issue 100% of time! I was trying to find and disable background tasks - but it doesn't help.

So, here's my solution: don't let PC to get idle. I've installed Caffeinated utility and keep my PC always awake, even when I'm go out for a few hours or night. AND IT WORKS! For 1 month already no more Clipboard Problem, no any restart! So I recommend to try this method.

SOLUTION #2 (doubtful: works for some)

Discovered by Glen Decker, instructions by Kim-LarryPapp

I hope it can help shine a light. You can follow the steps below. Some things to note, I've placed keystrokes in square brackets to indicate the keyboard touches, and the 'WIN' key refers to the Windows Key on the keyboard. (e.g. [ctrl+alt+del])

  • [Win + R] to open the Run Window
  • [services.msc] => [enter]
  • Click the 'Name' column heading to be sure the items are listed in alphabetical, A to Z.
  • Scroll down to find the item listed 'Connected Devices Platform Service' (Служба платформы подключенных устройств)
  • Double-Click the item to open the properties window.
  • Change the 'Start-up Type' in the drop-down to 'Disabled'. Mine was set to 'Automatic (Delayed)'.
  • Reboot

UPDATE FROM SEPTEMBER 2024:

From the moment I discovered solution #1 I have no issues with clipboard at all - for 3 months in a row!

Just using Caffeinated utility or PowerToys Awake - yes, not fix, but stable workaround. At least I can do my job while Microsoft ignores this issue.

An operating system that has been developed for more than 30 years with all the time and the money in the world.

And still having this type of noob problems.

Windows 11 after years still looks like AN UNFINISHED, BETA OS

Good luck, they are trying very hard to understand and fix the problem. The more "EXPERTS" we have working on the problem the better for the user community. I also keep referring them to this link, there is a lot of good information shared here. Microsoft seems they just want to focus on one problem and not the big picture. I think they are finally understanding they have a problem with Windows 11.

Good luck and stay in touch.

    I have my call tomorrow.

I have dual monitors, I thought I read somewhere in these post that a user went to Windows 10 and the problem followed. My copy and paste usually stops somewhere around 24-26 hours after a restart. I worked with Level 3 today to attempt to reinstall Windows 11, the reinstalled failed because there were drivers missing from Dell when the P/C was purchased. We're working on getting the right drivers installed and then we will perform a total rebuild of the P/C back to factory settings. This will be the fourth time I have done a complete rebuild of the P/C. I'm told this Windows 11 will be the latest and greatest that is available. At least I have Microsoft attention and will continue to work with them until they have a fix, I opened my first problem on 12/29/2023 and have been working with them at least once or twice a week since then.

Well I have solved my problems!!!!! Installed Windows 10 Enterprise.

However was not a simple task. Beacose I downloaded the trial image for W10 Ent. My normal and legal key for W10. wont work.

The problem was that in some god forsaken folder windows\system32 was missing some kind of tokens that was necessary to activate W10.

After 1 hour digging the web I found the solution, not given by MSFT, but a jurassic neard that must know Windows from when TRex was walking on earth. Hail to Him.

Microsoft must understand that, some people work, instead of being simple users. And the people that work and make money from it, don't have the time or patient to lose time finding the **** of some people that working more or less, is money is garatied at the end of the month.

By the way, Windows is every time more like a tablet and build for peolpe that dont know tech. Nothing against. However some people does, and know Windows from inside out. And is a litle bit frustrating, knowing how to do, but only have buttons and options made for simple users. JESUS.

The path is clear, the only barrier is that Linux don't still have full compatability for professional apps. But it is a matter of time. And then, more cuts on jobs for Tech people! Guess what IDGAF.

After hundrerds if not thousands of user that have/are encountering this problem, WHY has Microsoft not fixed this.NERVER had this trouble until I upgrade to a PC with Windows 11. Soon as I have the time and energy I'm downgrading (an upgreade in usability) to Winows 10. My biggest problem is that when this cut/paster issue pops up it also renders my ability to turn off my computer without having to use the machine's power button, which is a hassle on my desktop.
