Why Does Windows 10/11 Copy and Paste Stop Working After A While?

I’ve been reading through the forum and noticed that I’m experiencing the same issues as many others here. I’ve tried numerous solutions, but unfortunately, nothing has worked so far. The issue seems to occur anywhere between 10 to 60 minutes of use.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned much is the CPU. Could this possibly be related to Intel’s 13th-gen processors? I’m running a 13900K, and I’m starting to wonder if there’s a chance this is related to silicon degradation over time (current intel CPU recall and bios fix).

On the bright side, I’ve had the most success by performing a clean boot through msconfig, disabling all non-Microsoft services. I’ve managed to keep the system running for nearly two hours now without issues. I’ll provide an update soon to let you know if this fix holds up and which software might be causing the problem.

Me too on DELL Precision 7720, after copy starts for some time then it stops responding.

I think I may be the one who originally posted this issue, so I just took the easy way out and rebooted when I left each day. However, I've been up for several days now and the issue has not reoccurred. My strictly personal opinion is that it WAS a Microsoft issue all along --- even though they never acknowledged it --- and that one of the updates finally fixed it.

But watch, now that I've said that, it's going to come back! :(

Many of us have a dual monitor setup, it looks like many of us are probably using integrated Intel graphics as well. I wonder if it is the Intel drivers that are the problem? I was using HP OEM Intel drivers but just upgraded to the latest Intel drivers, my clipboard issues have come back, but nearly as bad as originally (prior to the Cafeinated fix).

I found this solution on other threads. It has fixed most issues with Windows 11 stability, including clipboard issues and video issues (after screen lock/unlock). There are a few apps but this one is free and works well.

I had my PC on performance mode and never sleep, but for some reason this app has fixed my problems. Honestly, not sure what this app does, but it definitely has slowed my rebooting to once a week (from several times a day, at times).

Good call, i have seen behaviour similar to this too!

i am guessing apps like EXCEL, visual studio etc use their own copy function because they store extra items in the COPY when compared to notepad.

This is a guess as to why, but i have not investigated.
