Monitor settings randomly change

I've been experiencing an issue with my Philips monitor where the SmartImage feature unpredictably switches to "Racing" mode on its own. Despite manually disabling this setting, it often reactivates itself multiple times until it finally remains off, only to recur upon restarting my PC or monitor. This problem emerged just last week, despite my having used this new PC and monitor setup for nearly a year without any similar issues. I've meticulously reviewed most of the accessible settings without identifying any that could be causing this behavior. Additionally, I've explored the monitor's on-screen menu but found nothing that explains the automatic switch to "Racing" mode, leading me to suspect it might be related to a setting on my PC. However, I've yet to pinpoint exactly what could be triggering this. If anyone has insights or suggestions on how to resolve this, your advice would be immensely valuable. Thank you in advance for your help.

Michael, my attempt to report the issue to HP ends in the following: "We are convinced it's a problem with the monitor. We can reset you laptop to factory defaults which will erase all data from your system".

As a former HP employee I have serious problem with such a statement. I might try another equivalent laptop (my wife has one too - exactly the same) to see if the problem occurs also when I connect the {Philips monitor).

For the time being I consider not to install updates from HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent through Windows Updates optional software until HP releases another version of their hp-telemetry-peripheral-collector. Or alternatively keep changing names of hp-telemetry-peripheral-collector_ver_3.0.4737034

My problem is going back to RACING mode again and again. Every time I think when I found a solution it comes back at random interval. Sometime 'resetting' through the buttons on the bottom (underneath) of the display I get another 20-30 minutes staying in the OFF mode which I despepartely want!

In addition to your 3 Triggers I can add a number 4: Starting WSL on my system always sets the display mode back to RACING!!!

Had hoped that with the April patches (installed yesterdag) the behavior would disappea. It didn't. HELP ME

The startup of laptop causes change for sure , but the root cause may not be the VPN or network cause I do not have a VPN and it still does change.

A user also mentioned some or any toggle in sidebar setting (win + a) causes flicker which did that day when i tried but not now

My monitor has setlled down to smartimage OFF now eventually and does not change to gamer mode other than during startup.

I used to change back to off again and again when it had changed (I do not know if smartImage is actualy smart AI that remembers turning to off) but after I always changed back to OFF every time it has eventually settles down to OFF and never causes problem during work.

Three triggers that cause Philips monitors to race: One makes NO logical sense

I identified three triggers that cause the Philips monitor settings to change to Gamer 2 100% of the time:

    • Trigger 1: Having the monitors go to sleep and waking them.
    • Trigger 2: Booting or rebooting PC.
    • Trigger 3: I replicated this final trigger at least 10x and it makes no sense to me. When I change the VPN location (i.e. VPN server location using a paid VPN app/service) on my PC, all three of my Philips monitors change to Gamer 2. This cause-and-effect between VPN and display settings makes absolutely no logical sense to me. Does anyone have a reasonable explanation for this behavior?

Does this third trigger make any sense to anyone? How or why would changing VPN location settings trigger this issue?

Also, is everyone experiencing this issue using an HP PC? It seems that most if not all reported issues are HP. Just checking...

I will also try your solution later today and report back.

As an interim pseudo-not-so-much-of-a-solution, I set all three of my Philips monitors to never sleep and set the screensaver to black sreen. This approach lowers the incidents of racing as the monitors are always active. This is a temporary measure, as I'm just trying to keep my productivity stable until a real solution is set in place. The downsides are that it's not a practical long-term solution, wastes energy, and probably adversely impacts monitor life.
