Reading with interest. New windows 11 laptop arrived this morning, also trapped in S mode. I downloaded all available updates per suggestions. Still trapped in S mode. Would appreciate suggestions, thank you!

When I follow the steps in the Microsoft Store to try to switch out of S mode, all I get is a message:
"Something happened and we couldn't start the upgrade"
and a Try Again button.

This is ridiculous. Computers shouldn't come with a mode installed that means you are severely limited to what software and apps you can install, period. Personally I'm sending this pos Windows laptop back where it came from.
I'm having the same issue. Brand new out of box laptop. I followed all the steps you directed original poster and still unable to get out of S Mode.
That's great news. Now I'm trying to let Microsoft update to Windows 23H from 22H, without success! Not even sure if I need to !
But they did say update available. Note... after just 24hrs with 22H!
IT FINALLY WORKED. i have wasted more than a day trying to get out of this ****. the installation of all updates windows update has offered me helped, probably. or it was just a matter of time. -2147483648/10 experience, the absolutely WORST ANTI-USER PRACTICE I'VE EVER SEEN.
