Same . I tried all the previous things but finally the reinstall of windows is what did it . I did have to go back in and click switch from s mode but then it finally didn't give me an error. Spent wayyy too much time having to mess with this but happy I can not use my computer how I want.
Windows 11 - Can't switch out of S mode
When I follow the steps in the Microsoft Store to try to switch out of S mode, all I get is a message:
"Something happened and we couldn't start the upgrade"
and a Try Again button.

2024-06-09T09:11:15+00:00 it didn't even let me do anything. when i clicked "mount", it immediately gave me this message. read my previous message, i have already described the trouble. even the full reinstallation of the system didn't help me. the only thing to do for me is just to wait.

2024-06-09T08:37:54+00:00 If you carried out the reinstall via Settings have you tried downloading the latest ISO image from
Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)
then mount the ISO in File Explorer and select the virtual drive letter and run Setup.exe. This should give the option to keep everything.
All I can say is the reinstall via Settings has worked for others and they were able to successfully switch out of S Mode.
