Anyway to not update to 24H2 but still get security updates?

So 24H2 made my computer unusable and "Microsoft is working on a fix." There are ACTUAL reasons to not want the update. Try not to be too violent in your assumptions.

I know no one at Microsoft cares but just wanted to throw my hat in the ring with the rest of you all having problems. I've lost many hours (if not days) of productivity due to the 24H2 update.

I use Unreal Engine for my job and it basically became unusable (took 30 min to open the editor every time) and we were racking our brains trying to figure out why. After hours of trying to debug, I ended up rolling back to 23H2 and now the editor opens instantly (like it used to).

Of course now I'm in a weird limbo state where I know support for 23H2 has ended and the longer I stay on it, the bigger a security risk it is. I don't really know what to do moving forward since 24H2 basically makes doing my job impossible.

But why are they trying to trick us into installing it when it is obviously going to mess us up. I don't want any of this new AI **** because I have yet to encounter an improvement that actually does not slow me down. It has been this way since Windows 7. It gets continually worse to the point where I spend four out of five hours troubleshooting and fixing things that the updates break.

Right now, I cannot even use a browser and word at the same time without sudden lagging and crashing.

I appreciate all the responses to this question. As I understand them, you won't get it automatically installed immediately. You'd have to select it. There is no way to stop it once they elect to .... um.... can't use that word.... ok, assault you with it and if there are problems.... well, we're on our own. You can still get security updates without getting 24H2 until well the assault. Since I don't have a AI computer and do not desire one, I expect this is going to get ugly.

I hate the update method they use now. It would appear there is no way to protect my computer for said assault. I've had problems with updates before and it isn't something I care to repeat. However, this is informative, so thank you. From reading all this, I've nearly decided to just dump Windows and move to a Linux based OS. Sounds far less invasive that MS. Yes, yes, they all have problems. But so far, I have heard far less from the other fellas. Maybe a Mac?

You don't precisely say what your "delay" method is. You just wrote something like "I am going to show you"... but you didn't actually write it.

And why do you need to do anything when Microsoft is:

(1) not even going to offer many people the feature update on day 1 (because Microsoft has phased rollout)

and

(2) even if Microsoft offers you the feature update, you don't have to press the red stuff.

The chances of people actually screwing their computers by following some vague regedit instructions from some random guy on the internet who didn't even bother to warn people to save a backup of their registry before making any changes (just look above in this thread) is massively much more than some hypothetical Windows bug that will bypass all of the Microsoft safeguards and forced a feature update on your computer.

Which one has more chance to happen?

There are also reports that people like you who paused stuff for no reason will accidentally trigger a bug that will force a feature update on your own computer. These people got cute and accidentally triggered a bug.
