Hello

I never had any problems with my PC .

Windows 11, version 24H2 update is ready to install, I approve the restart, it starts working, stops at 68% for 5 minutes, then restarts and turns off PC. When I booth back, it simply wants to download it and install it again.

Troubleshooter shows Error but offers no solution.

I have downloaded the ISO and followed all instructions, but 26% in, the installer just stops all goes back to windows and says Windows 11 instalation failed.

Any ideas?

    1. Is the WMI service turned on and running?
    2. Please share the following setup log file on OneDrive (or any other host) and post the link here:

    C:$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log

    Note: "C:$WINDOWS.~BT" is a hidden folder. To access it, press Win + R, type "C:$WINDOWS.~BT" and click OK.

    Not sure what you mean by 'The farbar' one?

    I've tried the update with only Microsoft Defender present. Still didnt work.

    My update process seems to go right through to 100%, restarts, then happily tells me it couldn't upgrade the PC.

    I've looked in the setuperr, setupact , and winsetupmon log files.

    There are many things reported in there that seems to be listed as errors of one sort or another, but they seem to carry on, and assume some defaults or other.

    The setuperr log file seems to have hundreds of repeated message like these:

    2024-12-19 11:04:19, Error CONX Windows::Compat::Appraiser::WmiQueryAntiMalware::ComInitializedWmiQuery (159): WMI Connect failed: [0x80070422].[gle=0x80070422]

    Then later on :

    2024-12-19 11:18:17, Error MOUPG CSetupHost::Execute(517): Result = 0x80070422

    Becasue I don't understand whether these are ignorable errors or ont, I cant make sense of the update.

    The setupact.log file i v big - over 65Mb.

    Again no clear indication of whether the messages are just tidying up after the update fails or contains critical messages as to what the failure is.

    And users shouldn't haver to be doing this anyway.

    You say the isi droivers shouldn't be used -

    Whats the meaing of that? is it published anywhere?

    I've used the Update Assistant method, and the iso file update , neither works.

    The only thing I havent tried yet is a fresh install of windows, blowing away everything. Too much hassle if it still doesn't work and I have to reinstall everything

    Farbar is this on a Google "farbar recovery scan tool". It's this the experts send you off on. An audit then they look at it. Mine passed the test when I looked at it. Looked at masses of screens like yours above when trying to sort it out and Googling bits of the report. It was at that stage I found the memory integrity tool which checks for competing drivers in the second boot. I'd seen that reported. That was my answer, just highlighted one. Disused DVD driver on the system. No DVD, wasn't my PC so can't be held responsible of how it got there. Once removed went straight thou.

    Suspect you are pretty close. Failure on the second boot means you just got to find the issue. 9 weeks in. Carry on. The other laptop worked fine first time.

    I am having trouble with 24H2. Will not download. Quits after 35% or so.

    Delete the update cache:

    Go to the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder and delete all files in it. Found it but will not let me delete any of the files

    I never got an "Update" message in the last week when I "shut down." Apparently it has been trying to install 24HS since Dec 12 and has failed each time. I now have a notice that I don't have much storage space left. I have never had a problem with this laptop == new in Dec 2022.

    Link to Windows is very wonky since this started. I do not have HDR auto turned on.

    Help, please. So annoying.

    Read my texts ("story") Dec 17 and 18 - I told there, how I easily installed 24H2 to my HP laptop succesfully!

    😁👍💻
