Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (build 26100.3194) ms-settings, start button, search and other not working, Unable to reinstall in place.

My desktop computer:

built for windows 11,

12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400, 2500 Mhz,

BIOS American Megatrends Inc. 9003, 11/04/2022 ,

SMBIOS 3.4 ,

ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME H610T2-CSM D4 MotherBoard

After last update, ms-settings, start button, search bar and other fuctionality does not work,

I tried as usually with elevated cmd:

sfc /scannow -> no problem detected

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth -> no problems detected

DISM.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth -> restore succeded.

reinstall in place (after configuring for a clean startup) terminate (100%) but does not succed.

This is my C:\Windows\Logs\SetupDiag\setupdiagresults.xml:

I checked the

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:"E:\sources\install.wim" from a mounted iso of windows 11 24H2 that I downloaded for the In place Reinstall.

I restarted OS but nothing changed.

From the Event Wiewer I found a lot of DistributedCOM 10001 errors (Sorry but my Windows OS is Italian):

    Looks like it executed successfully this time. If Settings doesn't open, please run a ProcMon trace and launch Settings. Share the PML log.

    I did not finish in writing the report and still didn't read about the access denied error.

    Searching in fixlog.txt I find:

    Message : error 0x80070005: While processing the request, the system failed to register the

Unable to start a DCOM Server: windows.immersivecontrolpanel\_10.0.8.1000\_neutral\_neutral\_cw5n1h2txyewy!microsoft.windows.immersivecontrolpanel as Unavailable/Unavailable. The error:

"2147942852"

Happened while starting this command:

"C:\Windows\ImmersiveControlPanel\SystemSettings.exe" -ServerName:microsoft.windows.immersivecontrolpanel

Reading FixLog.txt I find:

4 errors like below:

I tried this Powershell command to register only immersivecontrolpanel package:

    Unfortunately, the get-appxlog output still shows the access denied error. I wonder if resetting the apps repository database will help, but it might be overkill because it removes all Store apps. Or maybe you can run another trace and share the log.

    This is my fixlog.txt file: fixlog.txt

    • CreateRestorePoint was succesfully created
    • StartBatch: ... EndBatch: section was executed but in C:\RegBkp i find backup 4 files with 0 byte length:

    launch.dat

    protocol.dat

    search.dat

    systemappdata.dat

    then i find 4 errors:

    ERROR: The filename or extension is too long.

    This is a problem because i missed to do a previous backup of full registry anyway I remember that you asked me a first backup of registry with Acelogix RegBak on 17-03-2025 and so it is possible to restore what is necessary in case of need.

    • ListPermissions: commands were executed successfully
    • DeleteKey: commands were executed successfully
    • StartPowerShell: ... EndPowerShell: section shows many errors.

    Keep in mind that I prefer not to install Windows from scratch because I want to learn the problems and at now you have proposed me many methods and products that I will study better in the near future.

    I want to understand the reasons for malfunction and the difficulties of recovery.

    I think this is also useful to improve support in this case.
