Files have a brown box on their icon and dont open in Windows 11

What is going on here? There is no information anywhere so it obviously isnt a problem for everyone.

Most of my files stored on Dropbox now have a small brown file box icon on the lower left corner of the main icon for all MS Office files. They open perfectly well on the phone and a laptop running Windows 10 but not on my laptop running Windows 11.

I get an error message saying the program cant open it because the file is unsupported or may be corrupt.

Why the **** do they release an OS that doesn't work with their own programs??

    I found my OneDrive, where I had saved my files, was not signed in & synced,

    Yeah, I deleted the file and it does not appear in my Recycle Bin. I can not find it anywhere. Thanks for the tip.

    Go to the lower right an open OneDrive and login.

    Once you login it is going to the Web and you should be able to open them. If not on the internet they should be synced now with your computer.

    Our organisation had this issue with a user with Syncing a team file structure to their explorer.

    The issue for us was that they were adding this to a new device (upgrade). So they'd previously sync'd these files on their old device.

    I think OneDrive caches these links.

    We noticed that it was duplicating file shortcuts (for example, General and Document folders would show a few times in file explorer).

    We found that clicking on the master organisation folder (the "your company name folder" usually above the sub folders in file-explorer would show you whats folders etc are in there. The status column would only show a cloud icon for the ones that would actually work.).

    If you delete the ones with no status icon (ensuring you are not deleting it for everyone!), you should just be left with the one that actually works.

    I'm thinking this is something to do with roaming app data. Either way, the above fixer our issue.
