intel usb 3.1 extensible host controller not present in device manager

Hello Hello,

Hopefully one will be able to help me. I bought an external ssd (crucial x8) i have a laptop with a USB C 3.1 Gen 2 and when i check usb controllers in device manager i only have the 3.0 usb host. look at the screen cap please . The x8 promesses up to 1050mb/sec but since windows sees my 3.1 gen 2 type c usb as a 3.0 usb im only getting half the speed .. I d like to get full speed .. any genius in the room pls ive tried many options with no success.. (going in bios , reinstalling this and that, update drivers..) I just cant get the 3.1 controllers driver to load or else plss plsss help Thank you

    little typo in the previous reply it says usb 3.1 gen 1 in the manual which is in fact a usb 3.0 they call it 3.1 juste because of the plug form factor .

    Hi there....

    Well John we now have confirmation that Acer advertised my system with usb 3.1 gen 2 but truth is that its only usb 3.0 after running hwinfo which is a very nice app to have thanks for that .. I dug further into the app where all the ports are defined and it is unfortuneltly usb 3.0 they name dit usb 3.1 because of the usb c port . whats odd is that on their store website for my laptop they say usb 3.1 gen 2 but when you read the online users manual for my laptop it clearly says usb 3.0 here have a look please. i wonder if i can legally do something about it ..

    Acer store : look fifth line 

    user s manual : look usb ports definition no.3

    We now have a clear answer .. i will get on the phone with Acer see if they want to compensate me in any way..

    You need to download and install HWInfo. It gives you detailed information of your system.

    Here is what I have for my old HP desktop which had only USB 3.0.

    This is what I have for the newer HP Z2 which has USB 3.1.

    If you don't see the USB 3.1 defined in the list, then it does not exist. That is why I say ACER must not have built it with 3.1 although the specs say it should be there.

    Did you look at what the "Product Specifications" or "Tools and Utilities" tabs might give you as far as what USB ports you might have? It looks to me like you got a bummer computer with other than the specs you should have.

    Hi John ,

    Yes i did contact Acer and it was almost a masquerade, they had me downgrade my system by forcing installation of older drivers and I/O credentiels and made me do funny stuff to my system parameters, good thing i made a restore point just before so i restored it after realizing that it made no change. When i use intel driver assistant it says im up to date check screen cap... heres link for intel free driver assistant Intel® Driver & Support Assistant very usefull . Btw Acer's tech support is like asking a tech question to your aunt who's a baker, they got lost as soon as i mention usb 3.1 extensible controller... i could feel it in the tech's voice that he didnt know S....
