Windows 10 extremely slow after upgrade to version 21H1

I bought a new hard drive and installed a fresh copy of windows to test if it was LEGACY settings or was it hard drives and drivers that were previously installed on the system.

The issue went away

I have to believe that this issue is either

!: Deep in the registry

2: Previous incompatible software that is not compatible.

In my case I have found there are a large number of software bloat can interfere with speed, Drivers for Audio is a common one. 

Check your task manager as see what is eating time.  I uninstalled at least 5 drivers and bloatware that are out of date and needed to go. 

Almost all of them were Notification Services for things like Virus software, Adobe, HP etc. 

This also makes the computer safer as there are a number of issues that hackers can use to get into a computer thru some of this kind of bloatware. 

3: Legacy driver NOT compatible to the upgrade ( a little like the above but driver specific. Audio driver, Audio Device Graph Isolation, I have seen

issues from users with Lenvono Flex complain the audio driver uses 30 to 70% of the CPU usage. I uninstalled my audio driver and it still works 

so what did that driver do when it was running? That is a concern as well.

Microsoft has created a VERY complicated OS and the more complicated the easier it is to have a negative effect from outside influences.

I should not single out MS OS as most of us have heard of the Boeing disasters, Tesala issues, GPS updates etc. Seems there are issues with just about everything dependent on a CPU. The one thing they all share is human programmers. We make mistakes, assumptions and that puts thing in jeopardy.

Wired article suggested that Complex Networks are too easy to hack, that goes for software as well.

Imagine if you build a house with 2 doors and 2 windows....you only have to lock and manage access in 4 places.

Now take a house on my block 11 doors and 64 windows. I lot harder to maintain, monitor, check, lock etc.

Software is much the same and multiplied by the software you add that multiply the issue.

I am not surprised that Microsoft does not have an immediate answer because there are literally BILLIONS of combinations of hardware, software, firmware, drivers, networks and policies. A simple DNS corruption can effect millions of computers.

If you have a space hard drive or maybe you could use this as a time to upgrade that hard-drive to a SSD and try a totally clean install, new drive, partitions etc. see if the problem exists....if it does then it is more than likely a driver or you may have a hardware issue that was not noticed before.

Any new updates regarding this issue ?

I did (again) what has been suggested my the MS people. I installed a clean copy of Windows 10. Straight out of the box, the problem still exists.

And, each Windows Update, my system gets worse.

I am not going to buy a new computer for this, or to upgrade to Windows 11 (I don't have TPM, etc). And, how would I even be sure the issue would clear itself up with the new OS ?

I am seeing some fairly length answers here. But having experienced the same myself, I discovered that the feed of news and weather updates etc., pinned to the bar at the bottom right of my PC was slowing everything down. All you have to do is turn it off. Its very simple. I think I just right clicked on it and selected turn off. Do a Google search if that doesn't work, but it is definitely just a simple turn off. And the difference is amazing. I have my old PC back again. Typical Microsoft loading up my PC with things you didn't ask for or want.

Just a final update on this.

The reset initially didn't seem to help, but I had windows update install the latest cummulative updates and this has restored my laptop to original performance, albeit I had to re setup a few things again.

So strongly suggest, consider the clean reset.

Setup the Restore drive from update>restore settings and follow instructions. Make sure you have backup of your data.

i contacted support, they adviced do a reset install with no settings. The reset did not seem to help but u had the h121 update installed. after a restarted i am back to normal.

so backup and do a reset, windows needs a refresh.
