Outlook not saving passwords after windows 10 Update 2004

Since Windows 10 update 2004 loaded onto my PC, outlook 2010 will not store passwords for POP and Imap email accounts.  I have to re-enter after every reboot.  The password is cleared from the account settings user info page.  On starting outlook it prompts for each password. I then have to go into account settings to set them there else I would have to re-input every time I restart outlook never mind the reboot. It would seem the the update also cleared any cached passwords to other websites as well. Those I have restored OK.

Remember password is set in the account settings, I've tried creating a new profile, I've disabled all addins.  Now run out of ideas!

My Name is Chander, a Microsoft Independent Advisor and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. I hope I can help you on your concern.

Please try these steps -

  1. search credentials manager in start.
  2. click windows credentials.
  3. Delete all the credentials from there.
  4. relaunch outlook, enter password and check the box remember password and see if that helps?

If that does not help try creating this registy key -

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover

New Dword - ExcludeExplicitO365Endpoint and value of 1.

    Note stop using some of the other fixes such as repairing outlook or playing with the registry.  Only two fixes are known to work

    1. Use a Microsoft login rather then a local login.
    2. See a workaround at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-and-other-apps-won-t-remember-password-after-windows-updates-1e5a8a80-7112-440a-a18c-be2e50047a75

    If you are using a Microsoft login and it is not working, at the moment, which it didn't for some people, try switching to a local password restart.   Then switching to a Microsoft logon again and restart.  After that when you go to outlook it should remember your email password once you enter it

    The second workaround points to what they broke.  The kind of task that uses the S4U option to login in and run, causes the credential to all be flushed and then requires you to enter passwords unexpectedly again.  One of the more well known tasks using this sort of login is HP's Customer Participation Experience.  As described in the workaround you can disable the scheduled task, or if you feel you need it change the type of login it uses to another such as "run only when user is logged on".  I believe option 1 works because in fact the user is always logged on.

    Make a note of whichever fix you use, particularly for 2, so when a fix comes out you can reset things to they were.  And yes Microsoft is working on a fix.

    I have the same problem after 2004 update Windows 10. Also it sometimes locks whole Outlook and can be started only in safe mode. Finally lost my Outlook account and all mails. I have tried: Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant with no help. Product is Microsoft 365 Bussiness. Windows 10 2040 also losts other passwords besides Outlook. There is something to do with "Credentials Manager".

    Outlook says "Something went wrong" Error code 80090016 Server message: Keyset does not exist

    Hi,

    I have updated Windows 10 2004 (19041.450).

    We are using Outlook 2016 with Kerio Outlook Connector (Offline)

    Now we have to fill in the passwords every time we startup Outlook, the same with the account on Edge.

    Please help us.

    Many thanks, the registry key seems to have solved the problem.  Note, I'm using Outlook 10 although I also have Office 13.  The registry key was ... office\15.0\outlook...
