How to install KB5034441: Windows Recovery Environment update for Windows 10, version 21H2 and 22H2: January 9, 2024

I tried to manually resize the partition by 250 MB per the instructions here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/kb5028997-instructions-to-manually-resize-your-partition-to-install-the-winre-update-400faa27-9343-461c-ada9-24c8229763bf#articleFooterSupportBridge=communityBridge

I had to exit Disk Part because I can not shrink the OS partition first:

My computer has no working recovery partition. I shrank the C partition, deleted the recovery partition. Created a new, larger recovery partition, but reagentc does not recognize it. The disk manager app sees it, reports it is good. But windows OS cannot use it, nor can windows update.

Here it is March 9, 2024 and still no fix from Microsoft, just a wee tad longer than 7 days from Jan 24th.

You'll need to have a Windows 10 DVD, or to download and save the Windows 10 ISO. It is a free download.

The instructions assume that the "C:" partition is followed by the "WinRE" partition, so that the last 250 MB of the "C:" partition can be resized down, to make free space that can be merged into the WinRE partition. Initial releases of Windows 10 may have created the WinRE partition as the first partition. In that case, still "shrink" the C: partition, and create a new WinRE partition after the C: partition, and follow the instructions, accepting that the first few MB of your disk-space will eventually have no useful usage.
