Windows Live Mail stopped working after last Windows 10 update

Since the last update of Windows 10, when I open Windows Live Mail every message produces "Message cannot be displayed." I tried running the "repair" utility, but nothing changed. Is this a widespread issue? I really liked Live Mail and had a lot of messages saved that I can no longer access. HELP!

    I followed your instructions regarding the 3 DWORD entries and changed them from 0 to 1.

    After I restarted Windows Live Mail I still can't reply to my mail or forward and create mails.

    Going back to the registry entries I see that all of the 3 DWORD entries changed again from 1 to 0.

    Hello, De_Beig-

    It's normal that the 3 DWORD entries change back to 0 after you restart.  I have no idea why, but the problems I had were fixed, even with the "0"s.

    My only comment is that the solution I posted on 3/26/2021, page 13, fixed my problems with Windows 10 at that time.  You just have to go through each step exactly.

    One other comment: Windows 10 just updated again a few weeks ago, and again it messed up my Windows Live Mail.  While it seemed to be working correctly, I kept getting notices to sign in again.  I then noticed in the upper right-hand corner, no one was signed in, even though my account was open and functioning.  (?) So I went through the process of signing in again, (to WLM and my Microsoft account) and it was ok.  You might check that you're correctly signed in.  Good luck.

    Those instructions fixed mine..........but some finer details were left off. Hopefully these will help some people.

    When you go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>windowsLive Mail, right click and select NEW......Do this 3 times.......One for each of the Recreate files........DO NOT TYPE =1 in the description.

    After you have the three new files showing, double click on each of them......a box will appear.......change the VALUE DATA to 1 against HEXADECIMAL

    That should be it.

    It worked for me

    Same Issue on the latest update. Worked like a champ!!

    You would think someone in the update unit would fix this so updates do not create this problem

    Thanks Again!!!

    Hi JamesMcVoy Good day.

    I am Louie, a Microsoft Community member and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. I hope I can help you on your concern.

    Its possible the Windows Live Mail got corrupted after the update, please perform the following below in the registry:

    1. click Windows Key + R (to open run)
    2. in the run type and enter: REGEDIT
    3. Go to Computer > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows Live Mail
    4. Create these 3 DWORD entries (if they didnt exist) or change to 1 if they exist

    RecreateFolderIndex = 1

    RecreateStreamIndex = 1

    RecreateUIDLIndex = 1

    1. Restart Windows Live Mail.

    Sincerely

    Louie

    HELP.  When I get to the line, all there is:  a small ab symbol, then (default)  REGSZ   (value not set).    What is that?

    So, the 3 items aren't there, nothing to add a 1 to.

    And, I hate to be stupid but HOW would I add the 3 items you suggest above?

    Thank you, Kathy

    Hello Louie-101,

    i red your reply to a problem concerning Windows Live Mail and I hope that you could give me a helping hand, too.

    I just happen to install my PC into the network of my beloved future wife and I cannot change the language setting of the Live Mail from German into Dutch.

    When I go into the options the language settings are not highlighted and I do not know how to change this otherwise.

    For better understanding the problem: I am German mothertongue and my wife is Flemish and does not understand the German words and terms that are on screen.

    Would be great if you would have a troubleshoot.

    Kindest regards

    Jörg
