Windows Live Mail stopped working after last Windows 10 update

Since the last update of Windows 10, when I open Windows Live Mail every message produces "Message cannot be displayed." I tried running the "repair" utility, but nothing changed. Is this a widespread issue? I really liked Live Mail and had a lot of messages saved that I can no longer access. HELP!

    Hi JamesMcVoy Good day.

    I am Louie, a Microsoft Community member and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. I hope I can help you on your concern.

    Its possible the Windows Live Mail got corrupted after the update, please perform the following below in the registry:

    1. click Windows Key + R (to open run)
    2. in the run type and enter: REGEDIT
    3. Go to Computer > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows Live Mail
    4. Create these 3 DWORD entries (if they didnt exist) or change to 1 if they exist

    RecreateFolderIndex = 1

    RecreateStreamIndex = 1

    RecreateUIDLIndex = 1

    1. Restart Windows Live Mail.

    Sincerely

    Louie

    Hello Louie_101

    This problem has just happened to my computer and I found your suggestion to repair it. I am not very IT literate but I did manage to follow your instructions but, after >Microsoft, I could not find >WindowsLiveMail Do you know what I can do?

    I will be grateful for any help.

    Sincerely

    David

    The fix only worked for new e-mail,   It did not work for old e-mail I had prior to the fix.

    Apparently you are having multiple problems.  At least one has been fixed.  Unfortunately, I'm a long way from being a techy, so I some soul far more knowledgeable than I will have to help you with the rest.  Sorry.  Wish could offer more.

    this actually worked for me but why did this happen in the first place? I mean there are probably thousands if not millions of Windows users that won't be able to find & fix this so again why does this happen in a MS update?

    Most likely it happened because Windows Live Mail is an UNSUPPORTED program since June 30 2016!!!  All of us, myself included, who are using this program are taking a BIG RISK that none of Microsoft's frequent updates will break this program.  That apparently is what's happened here.

    Louie, no matter how many times I change it to 1, RecreateStreamIndex always reverts back to 0?
