Windows Live Mail stopped working after last Windows 10 update

Since the last update of Windows 10, when I open Windows Live Mail every message produces "Message cannot be displayed." I tried running the "repair" utility, but nothing changed. Is this a widespread issue? I really liked Live Mail and had a lot of messages saved that I can no longer access. HELP!

    Hi JamesMcVoy Good day.

    I am Louie, a Microsoft Community member and a fellow Windows 10 user like you. I hope I can help you on your concern.

    Its possible the Windows Live Mail got corrupted after the update, please perform the following below in the registry:

    1. click Windows Key + R (to open run)
    2. in the run type and enter: REGEDIT
    3. Go to Computer > HKEY_CURRENT_USER > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows Live Mail
    4. Create these 3 DWORD entries (if they didnt exist) or change to 1 if they exist

    RecreateFolderIndex = 1

    RecreateStreamIndex = 1

    RecreateUIDLIndex = 1

    1. Restart Windows Live Mail.

    Sincerely

    Louie

    This worked for me. I believe it may have originally come from a German forum; whoever wrote it, thanks so much. For anyone as low-tech as me, who may not know how to create new DWORD registry entries (which is what is recommended above), you can find out how to do this on several sites, including  https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-add-a-new-dword-in-regedit

    Sorry to say this did not work. I still get the message that my emails "cannot be displayed."

    Hello Louie, what if there isn't a registry entry to update? The first screenshot is to verify I am looking in the right directory.

    The second screen shot (I had to scroll down), illustrates this folder is not in the registry.

    Do you have any other ideas on how I might fix my problem (Windows Mail not working)?

    Best,

    Marc
