KB4566782 Update Loop

My laptop is running Windows 10 2004 OS build 19041.388 and windows update decides to automatically install cumulative update KB4566782 (build 19041.450). The installation will fail (0x800f081f) during updating Windows and Windows update automatically retry to install it until my laptop's battery dies.

How get out of this update loop?

update: We need a true solution, and please do not mark reinstalling windows 10 as an answer, dear moderators.

    That's so true. Can't believe that M$ still not going to fix those sht. Windows is the ugliest monotonic cumbersome nonstandard operating system I ever used, and it's a nightmare for deploying the developing environment. M$ today don't care too much about Windows and develop it in a careless way.

    Sadly my laptop's touchpad doesn't work under Ubuntu or I won't use Windows anymore

    Excellent posting! And why Microsoft didn't jump on this right away leaves one (and many more) totally bewildered. And it of course does make one & the many more again wondering why this type of thing keeps happening! I mean seriously, who have they got for programmers? Possibly some from the Klingon Empire!

    I concur!  I never have these problems with updates from Apple.  I should not have to reinstall OS just because MS can't get their act together.  Furthermore, when I did the manual install, it did the same - got to 100% and the backed itself out and then said, "...Not installed".  That is not useful.  Microsoft knows why a program can't install and tell you why.  Whenever I look up the error code numbers, all they tell you is general information which never solves the problem.

    I'm a retired programmer myself, and I'm greatly disappointed in MS lack of ability to programmatically inform you why something didn't install.

    I've tried everything before finding this thread, (other than complete Windows 10 install) and nothing works.

    I was frustrated for days regarding kb4566782 and 0x800f081f or continuous update loop.  So, I said why not try the MediaCreationTool2004.exe  https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 as was suggested elsewhere.  I was initially cautious but took a chance.  It worked without any issues.  It did not prompt me for an iso or media, it just ran.  I chose to keep my files of course and it ran for about 20-30 minutes.  When completed it showed "You're up to date" under Windows Update.  I checked for installed updates, and instead of having today's date (08/22/2020) for kb4566782 it showed it as installed on 8/8/2020, which is odd but I'm okay with.  Perhaps recovery/reset pc option would do the same and keep files as well.  I wouldn't really consider this a Windows reinstall for the amount of time it took and what it achieved.  I consider it putting back the files that were causing the update to fail in the first place.  I'm satisfied and would do it again if I ran into this same or similar issue with windows update and/or loop.
