Thanks,
this helped for me,
I changed
NVIDIA System Control > 3D Settings > Global Settings > Preferred GPU
from "NVIDIA high performance processor"
back to "auto select"

Hello Windows Community folks
Windows 10 keeps crashing after I click Performance TAB in Task Manager. It crashes the windows going into the infamous Green screen with reason- Windows preview build failed. I have tried several debug options like cmd SFC Scan, DISM.
I have not specifically touched registry keys as I am afraid I will end up breaking something else.
What options do I have? Please suggest.
Thanks

Same for me:
Crucial MX 500 1TB
Windows 10 2004 (new installation!)
BSoD after selecting performance tab 😢
I agree. I doubted the SATA driver too since due to the disk usage reporting (and the trend I was seeing here about secondary hard drives). Fascinating how a minor issue like this can lead up to huge problems.
The issue is directly related to the components that are shown in Performance tab (CPU, Memory, Disk, Wi-Fi, GPU).
Mine was the GPU driver (Nvidia Quadro K1000M), which DriverDoc did not even show it as outdated.
I've installed the latest driver from nvidia, I restarted the system and the issue is no longer present.
In short, start with the devices that are monitored in Performance tab, update one driver at a time, restart, check and repeat until you fix it.
An update for all those following this thread:
I will add some background, my issue started at a random time while using a fresh install of Windows 10 1904 on a Crucial MX500 SSD, with my old Hitachi 1TB HDD in the CD Bay. I have an HP Pavilion 15 n209tx notebook if that matters.
I used DriverDoc and started updating all my drivers, one by one. I updated Realtek High Definition Audio driver first, and the issue was gone. I rebooted my machine and it was back again. Hence, make sure you are rebooting at least once after each driver update.
I updated NVIDIA graphics card driver, rebooted, did not fix the issue.
I updated the Intel SATA controller driver, thinking that the issue may be because of the HDD placed in the CD bay (like many others have reported on this thread). And lo and behold, I rebooted and the issue was gone. I have rebooted my PC twice after that, been doing several read/writes onto both my main SSD and secondary HDD, and it has been all good! The performance tab takes a second to load up, but it works flawlessly.
I am attaching a screenshot for the list of exact drivers I updated (Driver doc reported my SATA driver to be as old as 2006!)
Hope this can help someone!
I will keep this thread updated if the issue returns. Thanks to @GeorgeWadie for suggesting DriverDoc
