Airpods Pro: very bad quality in Headset mode on Windows 10

Dear all,

I've got my new Airpods Pro, they work well with my iPhone.

Also on Windows 10 via bluetooth, sound quality is good when using the "Airpods stereo" mode.

However, in the headset mode ("Airpods Hands-Free AG Audio") sound and especially microphone quality is extremely bad. I tried to change the default format (see screenshot, it's only 8000Hz), but I cannot change it as it's grey. Any advice to get a better microphone quality?

According to this post it should be fixed already in Insiders Build (currently Dev Channel only).

    This is very well explained, however, bluetooth Jabras are working just fine! So there are for sure political motivations.

    I am okay with political motivations, where it genuinelly support ones group of products, but this one is so counterproductive for Microsoft. They are not gaining anything, only thousands of upset customers (this topic in multiple problem reports and in google searches is alive 2+ years) that are victims of this Apple vs. Microsoft/Jabra fight.

    Airpods Pro have currently no alternative for many, so all users with Windows are now discriminated. Personally, this is a big disadvatage for my comfort, while working 8+ hours daily on Laptop - and I will consider this when deciding between macbook and dell xps.

    I've  had  the  same  problem. Updated to  21H2 latest  build.  There  are  no  longer  Headphone  - Headset  options, there  is  only  the  airpods, that's all. Seemed like they  fixed it. Now  I  got  a  different problem.

    Whichever earphone  I  put on  first, connects first, and after a  3-5 second delay  the  other  one  connects, but  I  only  get  audio  from  the first  one  I  put  on. I  clearly  hear   both  of  them  getting connected  but  there  is  no  sound  from  the  second  one. And  mic  quality is  even  worse  than  before.  We  mostly  hear  a  tapping sound.

    Microsoft  please  help.

    Yes. This happened with the new Windows Update. I went to BlueTooth devices and deleted the AirPods. Reinstalled and all works as intended.

    I have already tried the Preview Build, it should be the next version to be announced to the public.

    I saw the behavior of the Bluetooth audio devices on the toolbar was changed, but Airpod Pro's sound quality does not improve in the headset mode. 

    Maybe there is a bug in that version......
