Windows 10- Locks up "waiting for cache"

Window 10 was working very well until recently after upgrading to Windows Edge chrome (or at least the is the only event that I can associated to this issue) I am getting persistent OS stalls or "not responding" that affect all applications when running Edge. Common to see "waiting for cache" in lower left browser window when the the entire system stalls and stops responding. Common to see the cursor hour glass for 30 or more seconds before system and affected applications start to respond normally.

    Same here, FireFox works fine, when Chrome and Microsoft Edge randomly, frequently, are waiting for something.

    My problem with Windows Edge hanging followed by a brief system lock was more frequent than many of the early posts stated. Like others, this problem began with the forced latest update over a month ago. 

    SYSTEM INFO: AMD FX-8350; SSD; 64-bit OS; never installed Malwarebytes or a non-Microsoft browser.

    It seemed that I fixed this problem by turning off all the browser settings that assumedly could cause a cache read hang. This computer was restarted twice after the browser settings changes to verify that better behavior persisted. It worked fabulously for maybe ten minutes, like how it worked before the forced update, but ... then the problem returned.

    I didn't bother checking whether BIOS was set to IDE, but doubted it. I put together my own PCs, so BIOS is something that I get right before loading the OS. However, this became my next fix attempt, since messing with browser settings did not cause a persistent fix. To my surprise, the SATA SSD BIOS setting was set to IDE. A BIOS setting was changed from SATA:IDE to SATA:AHCI. A computer restart brought a BSoD from device read failure. Another computer restart brought the Windows blue screen menu that allowed a Windows 10 reset, which I chose to cause Windows 10 to reload using the new BIOS setting.

    So far so good. Previous to changing this BIOS setting, I had to turn off all of the Microsoft Edge home page noise to limit the hang and lockup. After the BIOS setting change, the rapid loading of the homepage links to internet apps and news feeds was a certain sign of improvement.

    If this problem returns, then I will report as such by editing this post or by making a new post.

    While I believe this gets around the issue, in my case, the problem disappeared on my two devices, a Surface Pro 4 and a Dell Latitude E7250 when the August update was applied to Windows 10 Pro.

    I now happily Chromium Edge and Firefox simultaneously with no issues.

    I made no other changes to either device.
