How to open heic file

I downloaded photos from i Phone in miccroSD CARD but unable to open. It says download HEIC codecs.  The payment option is in US $ whereas I have Debit/Credit card of Indian Rupee. Please guide

To view HEIC/HEIF file on Windows 10 PC, the following 4 requirements are necessary.

  1. Update Windows 10 to 1809 or later
  2. In Microsoft Store, get the 'Microsoft Photos' (Released by Microsoft and Free) , and set it as Windows Default Photo Viewer
  3. In Microsoft Store, get the 'HEIF Image Extensions' (Released by Microsoft and Free)
  4. In Microsoft Store, get the 'HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer' (Released by Microsoft and Free)

Please note, there are 2 versions of 'HEVC Video Extensions', one you have to pay for $1, another is free, get the free one from the following URL:

    I really think that THIS is the key to the problem that many, many, many people are experiencing on Windows. Although the Windows HEIF image extensions are "free" in MS app-store, it looks like it will NOT (repeat NOT) work unless you also download/install the HEVC video codec plugin from the MS app-store!!! The HEVC plugin is NOT free although it is only USD $0.99 to purchase. Once I installed the HEVC video codec extension package, then the HEIF images/photos suddenly were viewable in the MS Photos app.

    Try this...?

    Yes I've ended up having to upload pictures to online web converters to get around the issue. Doesn't feel like the most secure experience but at least it works. Asides from the numerous web tools, both Google and Apple can work with this format so it's frustrating that Windows can't.
