Harman Kardon Invoke Setup Failure

Hello

I've owned my Harman/Kardon Invoke speaker for almost 3 years now, and haven't had an issue with it until now.

It stopped working suddenly, and when I tried to reset it (by holding the mute button for 5 seconds) the speaker never finishes setting up. The Cortana device setup app says it's ready to go, but the speaker itself never says so, the light just keeps slowly blinking forever.

I've tried using different WIFI networks, re-installing the setup app, trying the setup on my phone, and I've even made sure all my software is up to date. I have a theory that the device can never be linked to my account for some reason, since it never shows up in the "My Devices" panel in my Cortana app.

If anyone has a solution to this, it would be much appreciated!

Same problem here... It would not finish the set up via the Cortana app on my Android. After connecting to the wifi, the ring would remain white on the speaker and never finish, even though it would appear on the app that all was well. After trying everything I finally just powered it up, waited a couple mins, then stuck a pin into the tiny pin hole on the back of the speaker. l felt the internal button via the pin through the pin hole and held it compressed for about 20 seconds. While holding it in the speaker made a chime noise and it flashed a partial white circle on the top. This partial circle remained for about 5 mins or so, then it started the set up process. Via the Cortana app on my phone I did the set up and it actually worked. All functions are back to expected working order, all commands, music, outlook, news...etc... After a couple of week of fighting I am glad all is working now. But still unsure what actually caused this to happen in the first place.

I am assuming that an unplug will reboot the speaker but the pin hole button is more of a complete/total reset of the speaker.

I hope this helps anyone that had the same issues I did.

Here is what I found out by calling Harmon Kardon about the Invoke. Microsoft dropped support for the Invoke and any other smart speakers that use Cortana. The Harmon Kardon customer service rep said they had that information second hand after receiving so many phone calls about the Invoke. Now, in my words. Basically, they have quit on Cortana rather than making improvements. We can still use an audio cable to connect a device to listen to music. However, no Cortana, no Bluetooth, no music apps. We now have a very nice paper weight. Glad I only paid half price for it 2-years ago. Harmon Kardon emailed me a code for 30% off any other Harmon Kardon product from their website. Lord knows that Microsoft has not offered any assistance and has not notified its customers of this business decision to quit on their customers. They couldn't succeed with their Windows Phones, so it would only make sense to continue to support their apps on iPhones and Android phones. Thanks again MS and any input or feedback from your company would be much appreciated. Perhaps, Harmon Kardon could provide a software update and give us Alexa or Google on the Invoke.

What the f???!!! I was a windows 7 user for years! Discontinued... I had the hp elite x3 phone which was the best windows phone and discontinued... I have 3 invokes around my house for under a year and a half and you are saying those are ALSO discontinued????

Who the hell runs microsoft and keeps doing this stupid ****????

Ive invested way too much money for this to keep happening.

My Invoke has not worked for about 2 months. It goes through all the steps to connect and says it is all set to go, but never finishes the setup. The red light on the top just keeps flashing. Will someone from Microsoft step in to help? From all the issues, it sounds as if this is something MS did during an upxate. Why would allbthese Invokes quit working around the same time?

All 3 of mine are working now as well.

Just goes to show, if you expect good product reliability (or God forbid need high availability) don't buy products tied to Microsoft services (and I'm saying this as a former Microsoft employee https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/author/roberthoover/).

It is this exact reason that I bought my 95 year old grandmother a bunch of Alexa devices to use if she falls and needs to call for help. Microsoft's unreliability would leave her on the floor crying for help for days while Cortana says "I'm sorry, I cant help you right now" because some sustained engineering PM assigned to working with Harmon Kardon isn't monitoring the telemetry.

my invoke stopped working with Hue lights last night and I cant seem to get it going.  all my other devices are working fine.  And its both my invokes that started this at the same time.

All 3 of my Harmon Kardon Invoke devices stopped working in the past few days. They no longer control Insteon lighting, and they wont even respond to simple commands like set a timer, or set an alarm.

Has Microsoft pulled support for the product?
