I, too, have had issues since 2 Windows Updates that loaded December 20th (KB4515871 and KB4524570).
Unable to boot up fully or, if it does, 100% of CPU is occupied with no processes shown to be using CPU capacity in Task Manager.
Boot up failures = Stop code: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED.
Did the 3x boot up, shut-off process to get to the repair menus and no repair options worked.
Went into Safe Mode w/ Networking and uninstalled both Windows Updates and Google (which also updated on 20th) in case of a conflict. Adobe Acrobat DC also updated on the 20th, but I've been unable to uninstall for some reason. (Analyzing other tools/options
to do so.)
Rebooted after the above uninstalls and (a) Windows reinstalled those updates and (b) still hit the same stop code and/or frozen PC (100% CPU usage w/o any process attribution) . . . leaving only the 3x boot up, shut-off process and safe mode start up options.
Additionally, the subject Windows Updates no longer carry uninstall option. I'm stuck with them now.
Fingers crossed that (a) Adobe is the conflicting program, (b) I can get it uninstalled and (c) this b/s, unnecessary and Windows-triggered problem on my gaming PC during my first vacation of 2019 ends soon.
Any thoughts/recommendations very much appreciated.
