I feel like none of these replies address what I feel is the central issue : Why is a connection to a store that I want no part of even happening by default??  They want us to use Edge, and do sneaky stuff to bloat the program up with marketing nonsense.  Then don't bother to make sure the connections are secure.  I felt sorry for them, so I gave it a shot.  Charlie Brown at Lucy's football once again.

To be honest I don't hold out much hope for a resolution to this problem because the webpage doesn't exist. So unless the directive is originated by MS Edge, there's nothing MS can do to fix it.

for instance, if a third party app on your computer is initiating the call to "markets.books.microsoft.com" using edge, then Microsoft has no way of knowing which app is making the call and even if they did know which app was initiating the call, what can they do except contact the owner of the app and tell them that the call is to a redundant site?

This is really down to Bitdefender to somehow record the initiating app and then record it. or just stop producing an alert for every time that URL is called.

Unsafe website reported.

Since the expired certificate issue is still ongoing - I reported the site https://markets.books.microsoft.com as unsafe to Microsoft. Maybe if you all do the same, they might take notice!

In Edge go to the site, then go to Help and Feedback, just below Settings in Edge, then "Report an unsafe site", then tick one of boxes to indicate site is phishing or contains malware, and submit.

I also sent a report via the Feedback hub with a screenshot of the expired cert, hopefully that gets noticed also!

My antivirus has blocked "markets.books.microsoft…." 26 times in the last 3 weeks.  I have never entered a search for that, entered it in a browser or otherwise exposed my computer to it.  But it somehow it must be trying to connect to me.  Definitely Microsoft should not allow its name on this apparent malware.
