same here. I installed gears 4 successfully but when I try gears 5 I get an error. I would move it to my C drive but I don't have enough space.. I really hope windows fixes this issue soon. Gears 5 is really the main reason I got the game pass...

When installing certain games on the Xbox Game Pass PC Beta app I seem to be getting Error code: 0x80073d13, Games will download to about 4.5%-9% then come up with the error.
Trying to install Metro, Wolfenstein, We Happy Few, Imperator: Rome and probably others I have not yet tried will give me this error.
I really hope this is not similar to the Microsoft Store error that does not allow certain games/programs to be installed on other drives besides C: which I don't think it is cause Halo Wars 1 seems to be giving me a different error code that I think is the disk drive error but I am not sure but It would really suck to have a bunch of games you can't install and we can't decide on a game-by-game basis yet so say I had just enough space for Metro on my C: drive but not enough to include another game from my other drive I can't specify that (atleast I think) it would all have to be on the same drive.
Update: That seems to be what the error is, must be installed on your main C: drive, when I disconnect my external drive Xbox app will auto download Metro directly to my C: drive

2020-07-23T22:36:33+00:00 The issue here is your disk format. GamePass games don't have to be installed on your C: drive, but they do need the following:
- NTFS formatted partition
- 4096 byte allocation unit size
Both of these requirements stem from the delta-update mechanism GamePass games use. It relies on some low level features of NTFS to efficiently move data around on the drive during game updates. Changing the external disk to be NTFS / 4KB allocation size will allow you to move games there or set that disk as your default installation drive.
something else at play. some games can install. others give ntfs error. some days same game previous ntfs error now installs. not consistent

2019-07-19T14:35:02+00:00 I had drive D configured for apps installation/games installation until i started getting this error. I change to C: but kept getting the same error.
For me what worked was to change the drive letter from D to E and then it worked correctly on C:
Something gets stuck trying to use drive D so remove it or reassign drive letter.

I formatted the external drive and changed the filesystem from exFAT to NTFS, and suddenly all of the apps that wouldn't download started working.
Not that Microsoft is very helpful about this- I had to do tonnes of research and just ended up getting a 'wrong filesystem' error somewhere else in Windows entirely. If someone from MS reads this, it would be very helpful to change the error message to 'The application you are installing requires a different filesystem' in order to make sure people find the solution right away..
