I have a bluetooth headset that does not allow me to use it as both a microphone and a headset.
I have determined that audio will play through the Bluetooth headset as long as the recording device is set to Conexant ISST Audio. If I set the recording device to BHS-530 Hands-Free then no sound will play through either BHS-530 Playback device.
I can get audio to play while the BHS-530 Handsfree is setup as the Recording device but not while it is actively listening. As an example my BHS-530 Stereo is selected for both my default audio and default communication device. I start playing a YouTube video and audio works with the Playback menu is up in the Sound dialog (first screenshot), as soon as I select the recording menu (second screenshot) the audio stops. If I switch the recording device back to Conexant ISST Audio the youtube video will continue to send sound regardless of which menu I am on.
What do I need to set so that I can use the headset for both audio and microphone (Microsoft Teams Calls)
The headset comes up as two separate devices once it connects to windows:
Playback Device
Type: Headset
Name: BHS-530 Hands-Free
and
Type: Headphones
Name: BHS-530 Stereo
Recording Device
Type: Headset
Name: BHS-530 Hands-Free
Type: Internal Microphone
Name: Conexant ISST Audio

Another solution is, you can try
Setting Headphone for gaming, music,....
Setting headset for voice call.
It mean in the same time you have two setting in both of the software
Example: You playing game and using discord1. Setup game using headphone
2. Setup discord input and output using headset.

There is no "sloppy implementation" in Windows.
Windows has the mandatory Bluetooth baseline implementation.
Other mobile device manufacturers paid extra money on optional higher quality Bluetooth audio codecs.
It is up to your laptop manufacturer to pay extra money to Intel (which makes the Bluetooth chip) and then Intel pays the appropriate licensing fee to the the appropriate patent holders to those optional higher quality Bluetooth audio codecs.
It is a money issue, so no feedback is ever going to solve your problem.
Ok, one step at a time...
It seems to work on some level but my sound is garbage.
My main issue with this solution, which is working for me too is that I want to have background music playing while I’m teleworking, but I want it playing in the headset instead of into the room to avoid interfering with others. When I do this with the above solution the music is not very good.
The only solution I have found is to use a separate Bluetooth microphone, with Bluetooth stereo headphones… if only a manufacturer could build a headset with dual Bluetooth antennas in one device…
time for 2nd (and only) solution:
So given this does not really work in win 10 until MS deals with it ( universally and with high audio quality) is the only reason answer if say you want to use your earbuds for multiple things but also get skype/zoom/... to work in win 10 -- is to simple buy a simple usb mic and use the earbuds for audio ( and great sound level) and the usb mic for voice. I think for my desktop that is the only reasonable answer - ( and has zero new setup with my earbuds in) this means everything works fine on phone and elsewhere but when using laptop / desktop you just keep the microphone device to the separate mic. Are others coming to this as the current best solution ( if you want high quality sound)? Have folks tested this fort ease of use.
