2 days ago i upgraded my windows 10 to build 1903 , since then ,

randomly and during any activity (gaming , watching a video ..etc) ,

screen with the word "locking" in the middle appears for half a second and my laptop goes into sleep mode

and then i have to turn it on again

this never happened before the update , i tried to reset and fresh start but, nothing worked , and now i can't get back to previous build

what do i do ?

HELP , PLEASE

SOLUTION

Hey guys

So, I solved the issue (for me, at least) a long time ago but forgot to report back. My apologies

Basically,

Settings -> power and sleep -> additional power settings -> change advanced power settings -> battery

Then, change critical battery action and low battery action to do nothing both on battery and plugged in

I don't know if others already solved the problem In a different way, but i Hope that helps

Have a good day

    Hi Greg,

so the problem is still not solved, today when I was playing the game it ran for 30 mins approx, but now I think it's something related to power... anyway I will perform the recalibration check but in the meantime can you please go through the battery report and let me know if you need anything else from my side.

You removed the battery and are using the charger and it works correctly?

Check the manufacturer's Support web page for your full model number to  see if there is a battery issue or recall for it.   Remember you have a full one year warranty for PC and parts replacement or repair so I'd use it if still available.

Run the battery re-calibration here:  https://www.howtogeek.com/172271/how-to-calibrate-your-laptops-battery-for-accurate-battery-life-estimates/

Then generate a battery report and post it back here:  https://www.groovypost.com/howto/generate-battery-report-windows-10/

Right click Start to open Device Manager, under Battery choose the battery device, then Driver tab, then if available Roll Back the driver.  If not available, choose Uninstall Driver, restart PC to reinstall.

If this was caused by Windows Updates then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall them from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here:  http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab

You can also use System Restore to get before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them:  http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-to-fix-windows-10-problems-with-system-restore-11364008291943

If this was caused by a Version Update then for 10 days you can roll it back in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery and then hide it until it matures using the Hide Updates Tool which is explained more here:

    https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninstall-and-block-updates-and-drivers-on-windows-10/.

If nothing else helps then you might need to replace the battery. However I will tell you that most OEM after-market batteries and chargers have problems so I would only buy the official manufacturer's battery from the PC maker to be sure.

    Hi Greg,

Thank you so much for all the help, so I noticed that the laptop was taking so much time to charge since I use an extension board, I removed the charger and directly plugged into the socket... and voila it's working now but still, the weird thing is why it started after the update is still a mystery, I hope it stays like this, anyway I updated OS back to 2004 version..

    Ameen -

A Reset does allow to save files, but you can never risk your files because resets can fail.

Your files should always be backed up because a hard drive can die at any time without notice.  Some suggestions to help ease into this habit:

    1. You can sync your Desktop, Documents and Pictures folder using OneDrive Backup, or just drag valuable files into OneDrive folder, offering 5gb free with additional space for cheap: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/116029-turn-off-folder-protection-onedrive-windows-10-a.html
    2. Google Drive has a new Backup that allows you to choose User folders (Documents, Pictures, etc.) to sync up to 15gb for free to their cloud in real time so it always has the latest version.  https://www.google.com/intl/en-GB\_ALL/drive/download/backup-and-sync/
    3. In addition I'd have an on-site hard copy backup.  The best way to do this is to sort all of your files into their User folders and then drag or copy them to another hard drive, USB external or flash drive.  Here's how to drag, copy or move large groups of files:  https://www.pcworld.com/article/2086566/the-many-ways-to-copy-move-or-delete-multiple-files.html
    4. Besides your files you should save a System Image back up to use in place of reinstall in 20 minutes. The best free alternative is Macrium:  http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/7363/macrium-reflect-is-a-free-and-easy-to-use-backup-utility/   You can even use the Macrium program to mount and extract files from this image so it can serve as both image and file backup too.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
