Windows locking into sleep mode

2 days ago i upgraded my windows 10 to build 1903 , since then ,

randomly and during any activity (gaming , watching a video ..etc) , 

screen with the word "locking" in the middle appears for half a second and my laptop goes into sleep mode 

and then i have to turn it on again 

this never happened before the update , i tried to reset and fresh start but, nothing worked , and now i can't get back to previous build 

what do i do ?

So, I solved the issue (for me, at least) a long time ago but forgot to report back. My apologies

Basically,

Settings -> power and sleep -> additional power settings -> change advanced power settings -> battery

Then, change critical battery action and low battery action to do nothing both on battery and plugged in

I don't know if others already solved the problem In a different way, but i Hope that helps

    Have the exact same issue and so many other people do too. I just got a new lg 1440 display. My laptop is plugged into it with hdmi at the moment but will have a display port cable soon. Once I close my laptop down, it will lock after 2 minutes. I have no screen saver. Power options are all set to never and when close lid all set to do nothing. Some people have said they have been able to fix this by https://www.thewindowsclub.com/stop-computer-from-locking-windows-10-automatically/ . I did that and it didn't make a difference.

    Definitely seems to be a Windows issue.

    hello, Greg, 

    (TLDR at the bottom)

    this is for your reference and an addition to the troubleshooting you have mentioned. lemme brief you on what issue i had and how i got it fixed. 

    Issue: 

    1. laptop used to go into locking amidst gaming or performing cinebench. 
    2. my setup has an external monitor of 240hz connected to it.
    3. issue occurs only if the monitor is connected. 
    4. i have performed all the steps mentioned by you and others. 

    My Setup: 

    1. intel i7 6600hq, 16gb ram, 512-1tb ssd-hdd, gtx1060 6gb.
    2. ASUS rog gl502vm from 2016 

    My Findings: 

    1. issue occurs only when external monitor is connected. 
    2. issue occurs only when i perform CPU+GPU intensive tasks. 
    3. browsing and working wouldn't lock the PC on its own even for hours together. 
    4. the moment i run a game or cinebench PC used to go into 'locking' within 15 mins. 

    My Troubleshooting: 

    1. opened the laptop repasted the thermals ( wasn required)
    2. clearly powermgmt issue as PC hibernates/sleeps all of a sudden
    3. performed all the steps mentioned by you and others in here, but no resolution in my case, (but others do not skip them might work for you ). 
    4. disconnected the laptop display cable and issue was resolved. 

    My resolution: 

    1. after disconnecting the laptop display the issue resolves it self. 
    2. that made me realise that i can disable it from NVIDIA control panel. 
    3. SO when i connect my external monitor, i made the external monitor primary and laptop display secondary, and disabled the laptop display. 
    4. now when ever my external monitor is connected my laptop display goes off.
    5. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING HERE IS THAT KEEP THE LID OPEN. 

    TL:DR

    KEEP LID OPEN WHILE HAVING EXTERNAL DISPLAY CONNECTED. USE NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL AND DISABLE NATIVE LAPTOP DISPLAY AND RUN EVERYTHING ON THE EXTERNAL MONITOR

    I'm having the same issue too and so far nothing worked. My screen will automatically lock itself when there is only 1-2 minutes of no activity and will shut down completely. This never happened before and I feel like it had something to do with the update. If someone could show me how to fix this problem it'll be great.
