Yep, it's broken again. It was working a few months ago but I just tried to download some pictures from my Olympic camera and it hung and then crashed, exactly as it did for over a year after this thread first reported the problem. I once again had to use file explorer to manually copy my photos onto my laptop. They've somehow managed to reintroduce the bug. Unbelievable.
Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems
Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

2020-03-04T22:24:13+00:00 I found kind of a solution that works for me sometimes. Scan your photos and when it frezees, just basically close the application wait for a while and open it and try scaning your photos again and again until it works.
Sometimes after closing the app, go to Windows Settings -> Applications -> scroll down to Microsoft Photos -> click it and click Advanced Settings
Under the Reset there are two options "Repair" and "Reset". Click "Repair" and try importing your photos again.
In my case after 5-7 try it worked.
My settings
Photos transfer to mac or pc "automatic"
I have over 20000 photos and videos

2020-02-18T23:27:46+00:00 Last week, I saw a Youtube video that showed something interesting..
Microsoft [Project Silica] is their breakthrough new way of storing information on glass..
A technical achievement capable of storage shelf life of a claimed thousand years..
Yet here we all are, in this thread, pretty much begging Microsoft to get off their ****
and help to fix an error/issue of theirs that is obviously effecting a large amount of users..
Huh.. 🤦♂️
I've had to resort to e-mailing photos from my phone to one of my e-mail addresses,
in which I can then open the e-mail and download the attached photos to my computer..
I thought we were in the year 2020?
Another thing.. with all apps closed, if I double click a photo icon to view it,
the photos app opens - wait - let me be more precise..
The photos app Tries To Open: The window pops up, however, it hangs and hangs..
I sit and stare at a solid black window while the app struggles to load..
Sometimes if I wait long enough, the app will load the photo into the viewer..
Other times, nothing but the black window until' I close it, and click the photo again..
Usually the 2nd or 3rd time I do that, the photo will open and can be viewed normally.
Unreal..
I can't even begin to wrap my mind around how ridiculous and unacceptable all of this is..
**Sigh**

2019-10-29T15:42:41+00:00 Same problem here. I needed a picture from my phone and didn't have time to mess with this Microsoft/Apple mess - so I emailed the picture to myself and was able to save it from Outlook on my PC. It's definitely not a desired method - but it worked for just 2 pictures that I really needed. Hope this helps.
