Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

    I tried this but I got a lot of errors at first. Finally got somewhat of a download, but the majority of the pictures were in HEIC format which won't display in Windows 10. And, the .MOV movies are in HEVC format for which Microsoft wants you to buy an app for $.99. Really?! That's insulting, to say the least.

    this "HEIC / HEVC" is an other problem...

    Concerning the HEVC extension, in Europe, we are supposed to buy it for €.99 which is absolutely ridiculous. I got it for free from https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/p/hevc-video-extensions-from-device-manufacturer/9n4wgh0z6vhq?SilentAuth=1&wa=wsignin1.0&activetab=pivot:overviewtab

    I replaced "fr-fr" by "en-us". You are able to get it from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/hevc-video-extensions-from-device-manufacturer/9n4wgh0z6vhq?SilentAuth=1&wa=wsignin1.0&activetab=pivot:overviewtab

    But again, it has nothing to do with the "freeze" problem which concerns iPhones, Android smartphones, and camaras.... Photos application has a real problem. Import "works" with "few" photos, and freezes with "many" photos... Unfortunatly, in the real life, we have many photos on our smartphones and cameras...

    same configuration: 18363.836 and 2020.19111.24110.0 (Photos has not been updated recently)

    and I have just reproduced the "freeze problem" when importing photos from my Android smartphone. Last screen:

    As far as I understand, number of photos is important. I tried to import photos from a camera with only 4 photos on the SD card, it worked...

    How many photos did you import?

    Thank you so much. It has worked perfectly with my iPhone. I have transferred nearly 150GB of my photo what was a big worry for me for long time. Now, I do not know how would I identify new photos from iPhone folders in next time.

    You need to clear out your imported pictures/videos from your iPhone and start with a new batch.

    I want to report that after weeks of the photo app freezing when trying to upload photos from my smart phone and my Samsung tablet, both of course are Android devices....

    Everything is suddenly working again...I have no explanation as to why,

    I can only assume that Microsoft must have solved this problem  with an update !???

    Can you report on the versions of Windows 10 and the Photos apps you have, for the record.

    Win 10 : Start > Settings > System > About -> Version and OS Build are under "Windows specifications"

    Photos : Settings -> scroll to the bottom, it's under "About this app"
