Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

    I want to report that after weeks of the photo app freezing when trying to upload photos from my smart phone and my Samsung tablet, both of course are Android devices....

    Everything is suddenly working again...I have no explanation as to why,

    I can only assume that Microsoft must have solved this problem  with an update !???

    If you turn off the “live“ function when you take a photo iPhone won’t take photos in.HEIC format with an additional.MOV file. It will just take a regular JPEG.  Doing that made it easier for photos to download my pictures, less data

    I tried this but I got a lot of errors at first. Finally got somewhat of a download, but the majority of the pictures were in HEIC format which won't display in Windows 10. And, the .MOV movies are in HEVC format for which Microsoft wants you to buy an app for $.99. Really?! That's insulting, to say the least.

    this "HEIC / HEVC" is an other problem...

    Concerning the HEVC extension, in Europe, we are supposed to buy it for €.99 which is absolutely ridiculous. I got it for free from https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/p/hevc-video-extensions-from-device-manufacturer/9n4wgh0z6vhq?SilentAuth=1&wa=wsignin1.0&activetab=pivot:overviewtab

    I replaced "fr-fr" by "en-us". You are able to get it from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/hevc-video-extensions-from-device-manufacturer/9n4wgh0z6vhq?SilentAuth=1&wa=wsignin1.0&activetab=pivot:overviewtab

    But again, it has nothing to do with the "freeze" problem which concerns iPhones, Android smartphones, and camaras.... Photos application has a real problem. Import "works" with "few" photos, and freezes with "many" photos... Unfortunatly, in the real life, we have many photos on our smartphones and cameras...

    Your "solution" doesn't work. It's not the source of the problem.

    The problem is also present for people that don't even use an iPhone.

    This has been stated maaaaany time before.

    Please read the thread before you post something that's already been posted before, without adding any valuable input of your own.

    You are wrong. My solution DOES work for iPhone users and also adds value by helping to avoid proprietary image protocols. I have helped a number of people solve this issue using these changes. 

    Quit wasting people’s time with your childish lectures. If you dont like a response, just move on. 

    Contrary to what you state, your solution does not work for iPhone users. This thread is filled with iPhone users that were still stuck after applying your so-called solution. Like me, for example.

    My phone has always been set to "Keep originals" since I configured my phone years ago and, lo and behold, the Microsoft Photo apps still freezes.

    By the way, when you state

    "go to Settings -> Camera => Formats and change the Camera Capture setting to Most Compatible. (Otherwise, your uploaded pictures will be in the Apple-specific .HEIC format rather than the more universal .JPG format.)"

    this is in fact incorrect. Pictures you have taken already in HEIC will still be in HEIC when they are imported.

    The problem lies in Micrsoft Photo's app, not with the iPhone settings.

    Many people not reading the thread and re-posting the same stuff over and over again is what caused this thread to get out of control and reach 38 pages.

    Which, in turn:

    a) causes more frustration for the already frustrated users;

    b) generates even more duplicate information from users who do not bother reading the gigantic thread, which in turn generates more thread pages and more frustration, etc. etc., - you get the idea.

    As for my "childish lectures" - an interesting idea because usually adults lecture children, not the other way around - I was really trying to reinforce proper forum etiquette. Sadly most people don't give a damn anymore it seems. The truth is, I did read through the whole 38-pages long thread before posting something, and made sure that what I was posting actually added something to the existing content.

    Also btw, my reply was not directed to you, but to Beefman26, who barely copy-pasted part of your (and countless other) post and stamped "...Solution..." on top.

    Continue as you were.
