Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

    I also have an iPhone XR and I found the following procedure did work without having to change any phone settings.

    In Windows go to Settings -> Apps -> MS Photos -> Advanced -> Reset.

    After Reset has completed plug in your phone and if Windows does not automatically launch Photos then

    press Windows key -> type photos -> click Photos app -> click Import.

    Click Retry if it does not start looking for photos. You might have to click Retry a few times.

    Eventually it will start to locate the photos and then you will be given a choice as to which photos to download.

    I have been all over the place with this.   I feel it had something to do with the NEW version of Itunes.    Also, I finally got through to Microsoft support.  They came me a slew of papers on 

    ICLOUD.   I found these helpful that they sent me: 

    Set up and use icloud photos on your windows pc (or mac)

    Transfer photos and videos frrm your iphone ipad or ipod

    Import to your pc (or mac)

    What is Icloud for Windows

    I long ago purchased 200gb from Icloud to store documents/pictures/videos.     I never really got the hang of Icloud.  

    After speaking with Microsoft - I found that my pictures from my Iphone when I tried to upload, were actually uploading into the Cloud.

    I downloaded and set up my "icloud photos set up for windows" and let it run (for a while).   Once you install

    Once all done, go into your APP  (START, All Apps (or programs)...  you will find ICLOUD PHOTO or just ICLOUD

    There are two files once this set up is down it copies onto your PC.  

    ICLOUD DRIVE    and ICLOUD PHOTO

    AFTER searching, I actually did find the cell phone photos I tried to copy to my PC.    

    HOWEVER, i WAS ONLY ABLE TO DOWNLOAD one at a time.   i HAVE over 10,000 photos - so I would be doing this forever.

    I tried transferring SELECT all, however I would need to purchase ZIP to do this.     

    Just turned into a nightmare.   I really hate ICLOUD now and anything to do this it.    Plus my IPHONE is so bad now, that I can't even take a picture without having to RESET it.   A IPHONE 8 Plus.   Never again !!!

    I finally broke down and went online and Purchased

    1.  The Photo Stick for photo/video to copy all my existing pictures from my desktop to this stick.  (it worked great).

    2.   The Photo Stick for mobile iphone -  I just purchased this one today to copy all of my pictures from the Iphone and this stick lets me also transfer them using the USB port on it to my desktop.   

    Microsoft is very difficult to work with and get help.    

    When Virus issue done, I will be bringing my Iphone into Apple Support - and hope I can control my frustration.

    Please help! I'm so frustrated! I have an iPhone XR with 6400 photos (including about 240 videos). All I want to do is dump them on my brand new Windows 10 PC (about 1 month old). I've tried a bunch of little fixes (restarted phone and PC, switched cables, switched USB ports, reset phone privacy settings, checked windows for phone drivers, etc.). So far no luck -- it's been two days.

    • Via File Explorer, much of the time is says "folder empty." Other times I get the DICM folder and start copying pix only for it to say various errors like "the requested value cannot be determined" and it gives up part way through.  I've tried copying smaller batches (one DICM subfolder at at time) but no luck. In this way, I've copied about 3340 pix thus far, but it's super frustrating, unreliable, and labor-intensive since I'm babysitting it the whole time. Really not sure this will actually get *all* my pix copied no matter how long I stick with it. 
    • Via Windows Photos App, the Import function found 6686 photos (more than is showing one the phone?) but then hangs up...it never gives me a "next" or "continue" or "import" button....only "cancel" which crashed the program when I clicked it. 

    A fix for this would be much appreciated! This should be such a simple thing -- ug!

    My phone is an Android and also having this problem , I can no longer upload any photos from my phone to my windows 10 computer...This happened suddenly today...having worked perfectly previously. now I cannot get work done !!!! There seems to be no solution.  Microsoft !!!????
