Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

    Have you tried to change the import to Original? if so i would try using a cloud backup to save those that don’t backup to a local drive.

    It looks like because my iPhone has Live photos which is not considered as Windows supported files

    I have the same problem. It appears some of the files in my iPhone that Windows 10 thinks it is bad file. Instead of Photo Import, I opened Windows Explorer to This PC, right click Apple iPhone icon on the right panel, choose Import Pictures and Vedios. I was able to import most of files except those Windows say it has unknown problem, and there is option to ignore these files.

    Its been several years and i still have the same issue. I’ve given up. I just email what i need now days but check once in a while to see if it is fixed and it never is.

    I will add (while being late to the party, it seems) that I'm having the same problem right now, but not from a phone.  Just a standard SD card straight out of a Canon DSLR camera.  It's never happened before, but it's happening now and all my vacation photos, videos, and to-be animated content is being held hostage.

    I've done a lot of messing around with this problem. I'm a Windows programmer, so to see this issue persist for such a long time makes my blood boil - Microsoft will say it is a problem with the Apple driver that connects with the iPhone, and Apple will say it is a problem with the Windows software. I say it is both.
