Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

    Yes, that works for iPhones. Plus, if you change the Camera Format Setting to “Compatible” it will keep your images in JPG format.

    Same problem here. Reading the thread it's clear there are two things happen here:

    1. a bug in the Photos import feature which I believe is a failure in its error handling for unsupported file formats. This effects both iPhone and Android users  the latter will typically have a few items in the sync that have been shared with the by Apple users, that mess up the sync and...

    2  Apples decision to store files in their own special way.

    The solution below works better for Android users because error handling works as it should - it allows you to skip images in the wrong format instead of getting  an app freeze.

    I found that using the Windows import wizard works. You can access this by opening file explorer, clicking on "This PC", then right click on your connected device and select Import Pictures and Videos.

    You could try RESET in Windows

    Settings -> Apps -> MS Photos -> Advanced options -> Reset

    Once done, plug in phone, Photo App launches, if photos do not start loading click Try again (you might have to do it a few times), see if does not freeze.

    If that does not work then you could restart Apple Mobile Device Service on Windows

    Go toRun window by clicking Windows Key + R.

    Type services.msc in the Run window and hit OK to open the Services Manager.

    Search for Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) from the list menu of the page.

    Right Click on AMDS  and click on Properties from the drop-down menu.

    In the Properties window, go to the option Startup type and select Automatic from the drop-down menu.

    Under Service status, hit the Stop button and click on OK. Exit that window.

    After the service is stopped, once again Right click on Apple Mobile Device Service and click on Start option from the drop-down menu, click OK and exit window and Services.

    Now try your iPhone and see if that has resolved your problem.
